Vacuum for boondocking December 13, 2016, 10:12:58 pm I'm looking for a recommendation for a vacuum cleaner that charges on 12v, or at least draws a minimal amount when I plug into my dainty 500 W inverter. Handheld or stick...I'm open to suggestions.Thanks!Rayn 2002 26.5MB
Re: Vacuum for boondocking Reply #1 – December 13, 2016, 10:31:59 pm For the most part, we've found that we can use a regular broom and a whisk broom to sweep the cushions, carpet and the floor. We shake out the rugs and use a bucket of warm water with a micro cloth to wipe things down. When we're done, it's clean and ready for the next round of living.If we have to use a vacuum, we have a 1.5 gallon shop vac that runs off the 110V and generator. We store it under the forward dinette seat in our 27' MB. The only time we've actually used the shop vac was to clean the inside of the Toad. Hope this helps.

Throw rugs that can be taken outside and whomped on. And a small hand vac that I picked up at a yard sale for $5 that gets the job done, but I doubt I'd be that finicky when boondocking. We recently spotted a fancy Class A towing a flatbed trailer with a full size washer and dryer on board. And there's that guy who took a big hotel-style ice machine on a fishing trip. fu2015TK

The yowling and its paws moving about clean just about any surface I can get him on and into. BTW I do have pictures of the setup but DW would kill me if I share them before we get a patent. 9 Likes

Re: Vacuum for boondocking Reply #7 – December 14, 2016, 12:03:37 pm We got the Dyson cordless at Temple Costco with many attachments for our home and found that it works well in our 98 ~ MB with the upholstery attachment, floor attachment and carpet attachment although we just take the carpet and upholstery attachments to save room. It does a good job, and takes very little time to do the whole rig. I expect you would have a similar experience. Mostly I just sweep, and wipe down the floor with a damp rag. The vacuum is used only about once a month.

Also use it to inflate our Zodiac like boat. Then we pulled the carpet, installed wood and a removeavle outdoor carpet locked in place with Velcro. I miss the vac but like the found space.
