Shower skylight seal
I'm working on roof seals and removed the shower skylight.  The seal the skylight sits on is degraded in places so thought this would be an opportune time to replace it.

I searched the forum but got no hits; perhaps I'm using the wrong terminology!  Where can I purchase a replacement; is there a product at a home improvement store I could use?  Thanks in advance, Matt

The Mothership has a much improved skylight (at least for the 30')! I had my 2004 changed out about a year ago. The new one is great.  8)

The factory would probably be your best source of getting the right "seal" for the skylight; you might want to call and talk to Vince.

LD does ship parts, not necessarily inexpensively, and you will have to send them a check before they ship, but, IMO, your chances of getting the right part the first time are likely a lot better with the factory than using something off the shelf from HD.

I recall that some have replaced the shower skylight in their rigs; maybe someone who has done this and knows what's needed will respond.

Go to Media>Group Files>Maintenance and Repairs>Lazy Daze Shower Dome Replacement and you will find instructions on how to replace the LD installed shower dome. I don't know how old the instructions are and if they are for the current shower dome. The factor could tell you.
I just replaced my shower dome with one bought at the factory in 2012. The archived instructions worked for this shower dome. I found that it was difficult to get the replacement dome to fit on the frame after the original ('02) was removed. I had to pound in the front corners in just a tad to get it to seat on the frame. Also, before I put it on, I put a bead of sealant around the entire gasket thus sealing it very tightly to the vinyl dome. Hope I don't have to replace it ever again - it might be tough to get off. I had to drill some new holes in the new dome in order to reuse the existing holes and I used the original screws. I put dabs of sealant in the holes from the original installation that I didn't reuse. In my case, it took some Goldberging to get it snug.
Matt, I just reread your post and see you were talking about only the seal, not the dome. Rather than delete what I wrote, I'll leave it here. Perhaps someone will find it useful in the future.

Got the new shower dome from the Ship for our 04 and installed it myself this spring so you KNOW it isn't a hard job. However, follow the instructions carefully. The new dome has its owns gasket and you are instructed to completely remove the old gasket. There is some drilling into the outer extrusion then installing screws. As with every screw and whatnot in Ruby that I get my hands on there is threadlocker blue utilized.

I went through two of those OEM domes. They were so brittle when replaced you could crush them to pieces with one hand. This new dome is stout and looks like it will last a very long time.

Thanks for the info.  Can you give me an approx. idea of cost for the dome and gasket?  Matt

It was $225 plus tax and shipping. Looking at the receipt I actually bought it the year before but never got a round tuit til this spring 😛 Danged procrastination!!

The gasket comes pre-attached to the dome. I didn't have issues with the corners like Chris but there are shims on the sides of it and the dome is such a tight fit that I had to bend in the aluminum extrusions to snug it down around those shims.

A couple of the old holes somewhat matched the new slots. I had to enter the screws at some angle to utilize these holes. The Rear Kitchen bath vent is also really close to the skylight intrusion. Thus, the screw in the middle front of the dome was entered at a slight angle. I actually think having a couple of the screws at an angle helps keep the dome snugged down tight.

Whenever I do anything on Ruby I stress about my handy work so I fretted about seeing it fly off as we rolled down the road but with about 25 nights out this summer it stayed nice and snug.

Good luck!! Dave

Thanks Dave.  Nice to have this, especially as I have a Rear Kitchen also.  Matt

The mighty minority Rear Kitchen owners!! Yay! I wonder how many of us are still out there now that they aren't making them anymore.
