Yahoo Question
Many of you use Yahoo, otherwise I wouldn't ask this off topic question. I use Yahoo for this forum and for many other non-business/personal contacts. Last night my Yahoo inbox with 14 years of messages disappeared. I was able to retrieve many messages by following search instructions found on Google. Has anyone else had this problem recently? I'm wondering if the recent turmoil at Yahoo has anything to do with this?

Chris, you did check the "Archive" link on the option list (page left) on the email page?

In my (rarely used) Yahoo email, I've experienced email formatting issues, the "jumping cursor", sudden screen freezes when composing an email, and a lag time of 2-3 days for "Updates in Your Groups" to appear, but no loss of Inbox content unless it's intentionally deleted.

It's empty. Thanks for the suggestion.

Chris,

It may pay to wait a few days and keep an eye on things.

I generally do everything on my iPhone. Although my lap top duplicates all my email.

At one point, a few months ago, all my email disappeared from my phone (not sure about my lap top). I couldn't receive or send anything for several days. Then one day BAM! Everything came flooding back in along with at least 100 new emails (e-junk if you will).

I hadn't done anything to rectify the disappearing service. Just hung tight. Frustrated? Yep. But what can one do.

Good luck.

Sounds as if y'all are using IMAP for email. I stick with POP3. All my mail--gigabytes of it--is stored on my computer (and on multiple backup drives). It can't suddenly disappear because some faceless, underpaid IT person at a flaky outfit like Yahoo screwed up. Yeah, I know IMAP has its advantages (e.g., access from any device anywhere), but I deeply distrust using cloud storage for anything I care about. I keep my grocery list in the cloud, and that's it.

Chris, I don't mean to sound smug or unsympathetic. Losing 14 years of email is a huge blow. But if I were going to use cloud-based (IMAP) email, I'd probably go with Gmail. Yes, I despise Google's snooping ways and their utter disregard for privacy, but I think there's a pretty good chance of them keeping their mail service on an even keel most of the time. Almost anything would be better than Yahoo, in my humble opinion. They're bleeding cash, laying off employees right and left, and in the middle of being taken over by Verizon. That's not a recipe for reliable service or responsive customer support.

Thanks for the advice, Andy. I had been thinking about moving everything to gmail anyway (I already have several accts there). It's the pain of changing all the accounts where I have used Yahoo email as an ID for so long. As for loss of email history - not a big thing to me. I rarely go back to search a past message in any of my accounts, so I can live with that. It's the minimalist effect.

"It's the pain of changing all the accounts where I have used Yahoo email as an ID for so long."

Understood! I'm still using Earthlink for a lot of email for just that reason.

"I rarely go back to search a past message in any of my accounts, so I can live with that."

That's fortunate. I search past emails quite often when I need to refresh my memory about various things, so it would hurt to lose all that old mail. I ought to find a way of archiving it, though, if only to take a load off my mail program. There are currently more than 20,000 messages in my RVing mailbox/folder alone.
