Big Time RV - TV Show
We just discovered this TV show called Big Time RV.   The story lines must be completely "made for TV!"   Are there really buyers with $500k ready to buy a MH based on cosmetics, paint scheme, and the number of TV's?  Now, we watched only 4 shows so far and not one buyer has asked a single questions about tankage, GVWR, tow capacity, or anything the least bit technical about the RV which they subsequently purchased.  And these buyers make their decision after reviewing 2-3 RVs ... just can't be real.

But nevertheless, it's entertaining since I get to see some RVs that I might not otherwise see around here.  And so it goes.

Ed--

I've seen that show, too, though I find myself feeling a bit smug at times.  Those folks seem to be in the category of "more money than brains"--rather like those who were buying imported 4-wheel drive air conditioned Steiger tractors back before the Farm Crisis of the '80s brought reality back into the picture...  I love LDy Lulubelle's retro classic look & wouldn't trade her for all the air-brushed swoops & swirls & granite (in the kitchen & BOTH bathrooms)...   ;D

If you notice, every episode is filmed at one or more of the Lazy Days dealerships and features some aspect of their offerings - new coaches, used coaches, lease coaches, lease driver training, etc. - pretty sure it's just a thinly veiled ad for them  ;)

As with any reality show, you could probably dig up info on their "casting calls" for the "customers".

YouTube also offers glimpses of various RV makers. This one of Showhauler was interesting: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7yhKVPxr3kk

Scroll to the 12:15 mark for the section on the aluminum panels. Personally this is purely for entertainment purposes. You could buy three different Lazy Daze models for the same price.

I'm guessing it might be more real than you think.  I have never seen the show, so I can't comment on that specifically.   I am; however, a member of the 'full time families' Facebook group.   It is a group for families who full time RV (or think they might in the future).  I can not tell you the number of times someone asks about layouts of RV's, how much space they can get for the smallest amount of money, do they really need a dually or large vehicle to tow their trailer, etc. very rarely do they ask technical questions.   Since there are mostly families, some very large, the majority of people have travel trailers or fifth wheels.  When people do ask about quality, the "common knowledge" advice that goes around is that all new RV's will have problems, and when you get your new trailer immediately buy all new tires.  I often have to stop reading posts because I get sad and upset at the advice that is given.  Yes, I do find myself getting smug about it.  I understand that not everyone has $100K to spend on a new RV, and I also understand that not everyone wants a class C, but the lack of 'homework' that people seem to do is amazing to me.  So maybe that show IS a reflection of how RV buyers shop today.
