Meguiar's Heavy Oxidation Scrub

I saw an ad for this Mequiar's product Amazon.com: Meguiar's M77132 Heavy Oxidation Scrub: Automotive and decided to try it since every other product I've tried has not worked for me. The rear of our red LD gets the sun in the storage facility, and I had some heavy oxidation in certain areas, mainly on the maroon painted spots. The Meguiar's product performed mostly as promised (see photos below); however, even though the worst oxidation areas improved, polishing or waxing them did not bring back painted luster. That said, the areas do look better. I tried the product on a rear side red (crimson) compartment door with little improvement.

Worth a try Chris. I noticed this year that three bin doors on the passenger side are faded. AFAIK, they have never gotten more sun than any place else and the rear bin doors on the same side are OK. I will try the oxidizer the Motherships sells that I already have and if it does not work will try this. Thanks.

Nice try Chris...

From the looks of your pictures there was a definite improvement.

Over the years there have been a number of discussions of which paint scheme faded the least. For my money I'd say the Teal Green (mine)  :) but then, as Joan says, YMMV! How about it gang, which color fades the least???   :-X

Got my do-rey-me piling up in the bank. Charcoal & Silver sure to fade fast. Good grief...but sure looks nice now.

Steve, my "fade-o-meter" is of this opinion:

Tan, Blue, Green = Less fade in that order. (I believe that tan fades least.)

Silver, Red  = A "push", I think, but if I had to pick, I think that the red goes south a little faster.

Any and all colors can and do fade with exposure to sun and lack of regular "finish" maintenance. The paint on the aluminum holds up better than the paint on the fiberglass and/or ABS surfaces.

With regular "finish" maintenance in mind, how often would be recommended for waxing?  I was planning on twice a year. Not enough?

We applied three coats of Nu-Finish on the coach last March. Am I due for another round? My daughter's gonna love this. She took the bottom half last time while I concentrated on the top half.

What joy. Easy enough but there is a considerable amount of surface area.

Better get to work. 🤗 Wax on Wax off, everyone.

I have used Finish First religiously each Oct. for the last 13 years. The sides of my red/maroon/white look pretty good except the compartment doors (maroon and red) are starting to fade, and nothing will bring them back. The rear red/maroon areas are faded and somewhat streaked despite polishing, but it gets the morning sun. The front is pretty good. White everywhere has held up well. The only way to stop fading is to polish/wax a lot and keep the coach totally out of the sun when not in use.
I agree with Joan's fade-o-meter.

There's the rub, "totally out of the sun". Sounds like a job for CSI "bag it".

Oh well...back to the planning commission.

I'm a believer in 2X per year with a sealant like NuFinish, though I have had better results with other products.

Zaino's products are what I currently believe the best, after a lifetime of experience. Unbelievable easy to apply and polish, very little product required, and in our climate- cool with 4 months of rain/ 8 months of sun, the protection on vehicles outside last 6 months, inside a year. It is at least a two part process, three steps in case of a neglected finish. Hand and machine work.

Waxes are a sacrificial surface that reward hard work with a shine whose characteristics for appearance are unbeatable. Wax finishes last 3 months. But I reserve that work for small expensive cars. Or should I say "automobiles". The work is in direct relation to the result.

Yes, I like detailing vehicles. And all this is my uxperience, YMMV. Come check mine out in Morro Bay next March, it will have been on the road 7 months straight. Site 88.

Just used Finish First on the reds today. Interestingly my maroon areas still look pretty good but my (I believe Cardinal) red areas are seemingly permanently faded in so many areas. So bummed. Like Chris, my white areas look about as good as new and still shine from the all over Finish first application in May.

Stupidly, I forgot my polisher at home so did this by hand. Ow, do my muscles hurt!!!

The Ford dealer who services Ruby swears he has a guy who can remove the fade. I remain incredulous.

Our 2003 LD is two months short of being 14 years old. It has been parked in the sun for its entire life
The blue seems to be holding up well, except, as several have noticed, the lower fiberglass sections, where the paint seems thin in places.
Fiberglass evidently doesn't hold paint well.
A few spots have been touched up, using a color matched paint, and it matched well, showing little change in color.

The exterior is cleaned every year with detailing clay and then waxed.

Often, the front end get waxed in the spring and again in the fall, for protection from and cleaning of the summer's accumulated bugs.
Every three or four, I get energetic and power buff it, using a random orbit polisher and 3M compound.
In the future I would like to replace the wide decal, running from the front to rear, it is starting to peel at the edges.

What hasn't held up are the headlights which have recently been replaced. I used a polishing kit on them six months ago, within a couple months, the yellowing and hazing started to return. A new set of housings were about $45, from Amazon, including new bulbs. Don't waste your time on headlight polishing kits unless your rig is stored indoors.

The wide decal? We bought a few feet from the Mothership last summer to complete the rear end repair. Sooo expensive! But the impact is so positive I may be replacing the rest of the decal, one side at a time.

The headlight replacement can really improve the appearance and function of those lights. For those who want to go for HID/LED:

PS - I used some Wade Maid (I think that's how it is spelled) oxidization improve,met wax last spring. I did notice some improvement. However, it has some "grit" (my word) in it and on some fiberglass parts left some swirl marks.

Started using NuFinish years ago after it showed up as Consumers Report  best car polish.
Each time CR rates polishes something else takes top spot but I stick with the NuFinish.

Just looked at CR now. NuFinish is back on top!!! Also as their Best Buy.

My DD and I are going to Big Bear at the start of the month. Could be a good time to break out the polishing kit.

Hmm...May be a nice activity for my daughter and myself. Just a little good clean fun. Better get a couple more bottles of Nu-Finish.

I wonder if I should surprise her with this grand adventure? 😼
