Flow-Rite Pro-Fill for 6v batteries - mildew in fill hose
Hello!
Last week we purchased a 2003 RB from a wonderful 94-years-young gentleman!  It is a great rig and he gave us all of his service records and manuals.  He loved and took excellent care of his LD and we feel so fortunate! 
There is a Flow-Rite Pro-Fill system that was purchased from the Mothership in 2009 for which I can find no details for on the sales slip or otherwise.  The batteries are from 2017.  I want to fill them, and found the filler hose with bulb, but it has mildew inside.  Is this cleanable or is it absolutely necessary to get a new hand pump fill assembly?  I wanted to fill today but do not want to ruin the batteries!

Linda, I would not use the "moldy" Pro-Fill, and I wouldn't attempt to clean the tubing with anything, particularly bleach. The risk of contaminating the battery cells is high, IMO. A new Pro-Fill is a lot cheaper than new coach batteries!

It could be that the previous owner did not use distilled water to fill the cells; I can't say, of course, but there may be some gunk in the battery itself. If you have a hydrometer, you can test the specific gravity of each cell. (If one cell is bad, you will need new batteries.)

Do post your plan of action on this; good luck.

Over the years my pro fill tubing got moldy.  I always used distilled water.  I kept the hoses in the box they came in when not in use.  I think the mold spores were from the air.  They are common.  Now I hang up the new in the sun until it is very dry.  I also keep it in an area with good air flow (shower) when not traveling.

You may be able to disconnect the tubing from the bulb for cleaning. The tubing can be cleaned with bleach, flush the tubes well before reassembly and use.
After using, hanging the tube and bulb assembly upside down will allow the water to drain out.
John's suggestion to hang it in the sun until dry is a good idea.

Thr Pro-fill system I had used clear plastic tubing; the current product shows the tubing as black. The tubing material isn’t listed, as far as I saw. Maybe the change was made due to issues with mold developing in the clear tubing? Can’t say.
