Good morning LD group, We have decided to buy a class C rig and have further decided the LD will be the only make we will consider. However we are torn between the 27' mid bath and the 31' models. We have seen a 31' island bed but would really like to get a quick look at a 27' MB before we make the leap. We are hoping someone with a 27'MB might be in the Myrtle Beach, SC area between 18 & 23 April and be willing to give us a 10 minute tour. My email is mel.murray.nc@...

One of our major concerns regarding the 31' rig is the reduced cargo carrying capacity as compared to the 27'. Being novices we really have no idea how much CCC we need but assume more is better. Another concern is the length of the 31' rig may keep us out of some national & state parks.

Thanks, Mel & Tara

We have a 27 MB which we bought last year. Just completed our first big trip, a month long, touring southern California and Arizona. Mileage was 10 MPG. There is just the 2 of us and we found we had plenty of room, still have some empty cupboards. Fixed nearly all of our meals in the rig. We considered the 31 but thought it too large. If you get the 27, be sure to get the fold down table from the 24 TK which is an option. It turns the back area into a wonderful space. At night it only takes a few minutes to turn it into a king sized bed. We use 2 sleeping bags zipped together. Very simple and easy. We do not use the dinette except as a work space, we use the optional table in back.
Hope this helps.

I have a 2016 "SliverFox" and that table between the couches is no longer available as an option. Some problem with making it sturdy enough.... not sure. I was planning on getting one. Will try to find a portable table that will work in that space.

Hi Mel and Tara

We live in that area, and would be happy to show you ours ('05 27MB) if we haven't sold it by then.  Listing it very soon

Best,

Frank,

When were you told that that table was no longer an option? We should be getting our LD soon, and as far as I know it will have one of those fold down tables in it. I'm just wondering if I should be making new plans......hmmmm

Thanks, yes. We visited Doug & his 31' LD yesterday in Greer. The rig is in wonderful shape.
We are hoping to get a look at the 27' MB the help us make up our minds. It is the first LD we have seen in person & it convinced us not to consider any other make.

I have a Mid Bath but live a bit far away for a visit (near Washington DC). I love the mid bath floor plan for the two of us because we often camp with our grown daughter or my Brother and his son. At those times the floor plan makes the Mid Bath great. If it was just the two of us though I would have to take a very close look at the the Rear Bath. I have been in a few at meets and really like the openness of the plan. Not sure I would like someone bunking in the overhead if I was bunking just below though. The midnight bathroom calls for the person in the overhead would be a tough negation.

One recent example was last Thanksgiving we met with my sister and brother in law at Oak Grove campground in Edisto Beach State Park. They drove north in their class B we drove south in the MB. Due to rain a week or two before the holiday the mosquitos were really, really bad. All the meals and social gatherings were in the our MB (they have a class B). Still the MB did very well with five adults, and three dogs. This year (2016) we will be at Huntington Beach State Park. These parks are very difficult to get beachside campsites for Thanksgiving so this year we already have the reservation.

Good hunting. Looking at the RV and floor plans is part of the fun.

John, Thanks for sharing your experiences. You hit on one of the downsides of the 31' unit for us - it only sleeps four. There may be times in the future when we want to take my daughter's family of three. It's an issue we are still mulling over. We want to make sure we make the right decision for our situation. When we first started looking we thought we might want a 5th wheel because of the space they provided. It didn't take us long to figure out that was a bad way to go if we wanted to explore state & national parks with tight roads. And then we started reading owner forums about quality issues - there are many brands with loads of "unhappy campers". When we decided a class C was the way to go the Laze Daze name kept popping up as a standout for quality and reliability which is very important to us.

As Joan says, YMMV.
Our 2013 31 IB is our first class C after a couple decades of TTs. We opted for the 31 IB over the 27 mainly so we could get out of bed w/o crawling over the spouse, the dogs, or the foot of the bed. The CCC is a concern, just off the mother ship with full gas and propane , with no water, the thing weighed 12,800. Loaded w/ half tank of water we usually keep to to 14,200 including people, dog, food and liquid refreshment.

We offload some things to the towd and keep it under 3800.

We have some difficulties getting reservations in places like Yosemite due to sparse large spaces. We have yet skipped visiting somplace because of size, although we have stayed near a couple of places and used the towd to visit.

If it were not for the bed, we might have gone with a 27, but are very happy we our 31.

Great info Joel, thanks. I think we may be leaning toward the 27 even though the 31 has some very nice advantages. Hopefully we will be able to see a 27 MB soon. After that we should be in a position to decide which path we are going to follow. It will be a new and exciting phase of life.

Frank,

Did you request the table during the initial order, or closer to the delivery date?

I asked Todd about this 2-3 years ago. He said it was an option, but could not be added after a certain stage of completion as reinforcement inside the wall was required.

Rebecca,

Best to double check with Todd re the table. It was a make or break situation for us.

Thanks Ian,

Our expected delivery date is April/May.....so at this point I don't think it's a 'deal breaker' situation. ;-)

I asked about the table at the same time I was ordering my other options in June of last year. I didn't see it on the options list I was sent. I had planned on ordering the table for my '16 MB and was surprised to learn at that time that it was no longer being offered. Frank

On our first trip with our 92 MB pulling a toad we decided that a newer rig was in order. After a lot of discussion and considering other models and even other brands we now have a 2004 MB parked in the carport. We just felt the mid-bath works in so many ways. We love the extra width, the bigger cab and the higher CGVW.

Limited CCC is the big drawback of the 31. Also tail dragging. And yes, you will limit yourself in find parking spaces. But, if you need to snuggle in bed, it's the way to go.

Maybe it's because this is our third 30-31' RV (1st LD), but tail drag hasn't been a problem though you do need practice at how to patiently drive the rig. I remember on our first one I'm lucky I didn't blow the back end off a couple of time!!! :)

As far as parking, again no issues...CCC, yep that's the challenge which is why we travel as light as possible and leave the unnecessary stuff in the garage back home.

Thanks Bill. We are going to see a 27' later this month & I have a feeling we will decide on the 27 because it seems to be the best fit for us. The 31 would be much more attractive if it had the CCC of the 27 but we understand the extra length has a weight cost. Our next decision will be new or gently used. As far as driving the rig ... I'm hoping it won't be as intimidating as it seems, especially when pulling a car behind it.

The table is not on the options list but was available when we ordered in July of 2014.Took a little arm twisting on Todd but we were able to get it. I think the cost was about $250. As there is blocking required in the back wall it needs to be ordered early.

We have the RB and truly love the openness of the floorplan. As for the sleeping/night excursions situation . . . we have it set up a little differently. I sleep in the overcab bed, and DH sleeps in a La Fuma lounge chair in the aisle between the sofa and the two chairs and commode table.

And, yes, getting from the overcab bed to the complete other end of the coach while it is dark, and I am half asleep, can be a challenge. I can usually wiggle by the sleeper, but sometimes I just walk across the sofa - holding onto the back of it for support. If the sofa was made out into a bed . . . well, I'm not sure how much room there would be because we haven't tried that - probably at least as much as there is now with the sofa in place, and the La Fuma in use. The CPAP machine goes on the commode table, so I am restricted to go by on the sofa side.

All that said, if I could wave a magic wand and presto! the RB was changed into a 31-foot unit, I would do that in a flash. The seven years since we bought the RB have brought about health issues for both of us, and I now lust for an on-the-first-floor sleeping arrangement.

We have no pets and no grandchildren, so these issues are non-existent. I really don't know how each of those situations would impact any given floorplan.

Virtual hugs,

Mel, I purchased a gently used MB four years ago. The previous owner is a fireman. He took me for an extended driving lesson first around the neighborhood streets then on the interstate. His best bit of advice was to keep an eye on the "bubble mirrors" in the corners.
When I got it home I taught my wife as I was taught. Later I was most happy for the previous owners teach the teacher time when I heard Gina tell a friend the other than height it wasn't to different than driving the Toyota van. In truth it is more than that, but not a lot more. The mid bath is very easy to drive.

We chose to not have the table in our 2006 MB, much to the consternation of The Mothershipees.

We did go to a Walmart garden center and found a couch-height folding metal table with a glass top. It fits neatly between the couches at can hold the TV remote and some Kindles and a tablet, magazines and such. It's sturdy, easy to clean and very easy to "deal with."

When traveling and at night when we put the couches together to make the oversize king bed, it is folded up and stowed out of the way.

We have a 2005 RB and we sleep in the couches pulled partially out leaving a small passageway for movement to bathroom. Can be pulled all the way together if needed
