WiFi Booster Review and Smartphone Hotspot vs MiFi Hotspot

About a year ago, I bought a Super USB WiFi Antenna 3 and an Alfa WiFi hotspot repeater from C. Crane Company. I had never used them until last week when I was parked next to the main WiFi antenna on the clubhouse at an RV park in Palm Springs. Even though I was next to the main signal, WiFi reception on either of the two available networks was usually poor to nonexistent. With the Crane setup I was able to log on to the Internet with the following speeds: Download = 1.42 Mbps; Upload = 0.82 Mbps. I realize these speeds aren't very whippy, but they were better than what I got without the booster antenna and repeater and did allow me to access info on the Internet that was not too data demanding. I was using an 8-year old MacBook Pro.

Also, harkening back to the recent discussion of which uses more data, a smart phone hotspot or a MiFi mobile hotspot, I used my iPhone 5s frequently on this last trip in lieu of my MiFi (Verizon Jetpack) and my feeling is that the smartphone hotspot consumes data more rapidly than the mobile hotspot. I can't prove this. It just seemed that way based on how fast I was getting data usage warnings from Verizon based on how long I was connected to the Internet. For sure I can say that the iPhone hotspot is a faster connection than the MiFi.

We bought a wilson cell booster last year after constantly being in marginal cell signal areas. I have it set up for the back of the rig and can run the antenna to just behind the drivers seat. It definitely will boost a bare 1 bar to 2 or 3 and a 2 to a 3 or 4. Wouldn't be without it. Of course if there is no signal. ........
