Missing roof refrigerator cover

How significant is it to lose our roof mounted refrigerator cover? Going thru a pass in Death Valley, an enormous gust hit the rig (gusting up to 50mph - wasn't very windy when we left Tahechapi ) we heard a bang but not in any position to stop and look. It would have been long gone anyway.
Do we need to jury rig something before we can get a new lid on and remounted? Sandy KalleAnka Vermont

Depends on the weather. If it rains, it'll be raining onto your refrigerator's guts, which is probably not the best thing. At worst, depending upon how well sealed the floor of that outside refrigerator compartment is, there could be water leaking into the rig. I've seen structural damage caused that way (albeit over a long period).

If you do rig up something temporary, bear in mind that the fridge needs that vent in order to work, so you can't just cover up the opening with a tarp or a piece of plastic. That could make jury-rigging a cover tricky. Hopefully somebody here will have a good idea of how to do it.

Thank you. There is a certain grim advantage to being in Nevada, Utah. But it did rain last night. For 5 min.  First time for us in months. We'll search for generic covers while we wait on the mothership.
