Hello Kent. If I remember correctly (doubtful) your '27 LD has the six (6) speed transmission. If that's right, would you provide us a performance review after your trip to Yosemite? I'd be interested to know if you're towing and the performance and speed up various grades. Also like to know your RPM in your most extreme grade. Thank you for your consideration of these questions.

Unless Kent has owned an older LD, or similar Class C, he will have no point of comparison.

The big grade in Yosemite is Tioga Pass, which is right now under many feet of snow and will be for months.
With the better spread of gears, the drive should be effortless, unless puling a very heavy toad.

People worry needlessly about running at high RPMs. The V10 is a short stroke, overhead cam engine and is designed to spin freely.
I regularly assend and descend at 3800-4000 RPM, well within the V10's operating parameters.
The engine's computer will allow even higher cruise RPMs. The E450 chassis was primarily designed for delivery vans, vehicles that get bet to death by uncaring drivers.
Ford's engineers have much better idea of what is an acceptable engine speed than any of us.

Don't worry so much.

Thank you for the feedback and guidance. That new Ford 6-speed transmission just seems like an interesting change, one that has me curious as to performance. But we're certainly "not worried" as I've had Ford engines in one form or another for nearly 40 years. And all of them ran strong and lasted a very long time. We're one of those owners who religiously adhere to Ford's recommended maintenance schedule, which has served us well.
