Wondering what people think of the two engines. We currently have a 1992MB with the 460. We are looking for a 2000+ because my husband really doesn't fit in the tight cab. We tow a Jeep Wrangler and get 6 to 7 mpg. The power is quite adequate. A couple of times on passes we have unhooked the Jeep.

I own a 2007 MidBath. Driving in and around the Virginia foot hills I get 9ish MPG. Driving the interstates at 55 mid to low 10.something. I often go to FL on I95 and on four separate occasions have gotten just over 11mpg - but that was driving long stretch at 55 and not needing to touch the brakes to slow up as someone merged into my lane or feel the need to push the speed up to 65 so as not build a train of cars behind me.

I also like the CCC. I am very overweight and 5'6" tall. The driver's seat fits me well but I had a chance to sit in an o8 or o9 MB and found the driver's seat more comfortable. The front passenger's seat was even better. The extra few inches make difference.

Actually I like the CCC. There should been a discussion about other things I like and THEN in a new paragraph some mention of my size and hight and how well I fit. While I am over weight by a lot; the extra loading capabilities of the E-450 vs the 1998 E-350 would not make much of a difference in carrying me.

We have the V-10 in our 1997 23.5 TK. The previous original owner installed the Banks Power system, (ss headers, computer chip re-tuned), and I'm amazed by the power. Yes, I was hoping for a bit better mileage, but we tow our 22' sailboat,(~4,600 Lbs), and it hard to tell it's back there.

I had to read the OP twice, I thought I had posted this! My question exactly! We too have a 92 MB and as we pile on the maintenance and improvement $, we are discussing when/if to upgrade.

Our 460 gets us there, but that tranny makes me nervous! A bulletproof update would be nice, but that is the line- if we go there the 92 is a long term commitment.

In the mountain grades we can manage 45, without driving the temp gauge up.

I yearn for the greater payload, since we top ours out, and the bigger brakes of the 450.

Ewestpnw? Are you from the Pac Nor? I would like to compare notes with you, we have very similar rigs.

The OP might also want to do a search of the message board using the key phrase "V-10 vs. 460"; this search brings up several past posts on the topic. One can glean some good information on the pros and cons of both engines.
