Bathroom fan - intermittently on the fritz

Hello all!

We've just returned from a 3 week jaunt in FL/GA, and are now back in So. NC.

I have a couple of questions, and I've separated them to keep the subjects straight...

First question concerns the bathroom fantastic fan....
We have an 05 27MB, 2nd owners, and believe this to be the original fan.

What's happening is that the fan doesn't work occasionally: sometimes it works fine, sometimes it doesn't work at all, and sometimes it works on only one speed setting.

I've tried the following:
1. Made sure the vent is fully open;
2. Removed and checked fuse: it appears fine.

It feels almost as if the speed selector switch is not making contact at all times.

Has anyone experienced this, or have any thoughts?

TIA,

Bob

Most (if not all) Fantastic Fans have a switch on the topside the won't let the fan motor run if the lid is closed.
These are infamous for getting dirty and sticking, preventing the fan from running. You might try to find if yours has one and if it operates properly. A little WD-40 might help if it is sticking.

I suggest to go to Walmart and pickup a can of Contact cleaner like CRC in an aerosol can.

If what Art posted doesn't work, I suggest you call the Fantastic Vent folks (800-521-0298) and discuss your issue. They have a reputation for excellent customer service.

Atwood (Fantastic vent) customer service: AMAZING!

I called today, describing the problem (remembering that this is on an '05), and within a very short time the customer service rep said she'd said me both the 3 speed switch, and the dome switch!

I was amazed, and most appreciative!

YMMV,

Bob

Fantastic Fan's customer service used to be excellent, but a decline in the quality of service was a big concern when Atwood Mobile bought the company! It's good to hear of a positive experience. ;-)

Fantastic is still a great company and we were so afraid that they would change when they were acquired..
I have received many free repair parts from them, over the last twenty years, including switches, motors and fuse holders.

Most failure to run problems can be traced to a dirty hatch switch, a loose connection or the fuse holder.
