Good prices and they bring back memories of a free Cleveland Browns glass and double S&H Green Stamps with a fill up. And they pumped the gas and cleaned the winshield too. + free air for your tires. Or maybe Top Value Stamps instead of S&H.

Ca. 1957.....Free road maps (and air and water), sets of glassware and/or dishes (and toys) with the right number of gas receipts, "Check your oil and fill 'er with ethyl?", unlocked (and usually clean) restrooms, a big tin cooler of pop that the gas station guy filled with ice every morning in the summer. Collecting pop bottles to turn in to the grocery store to get cash for a gallon of gas (or two, if we found Par-ti-Pak bottles; at about 27 cents a gallon for gas, it didn't take too many pop bottles!) for a friend's '40 Ford sedan so we could cut school and go to the beach.

Today I filled the little car; $2.86 per gallon. I need to start looking for pop bottles again. ;-)

Laredo, TX.  1962.  Joan's account is the exactly like the placed I worked on Saturday from 6:00 AM until 9:00 PM for $5.00.  That money lasted me all week to include a bit of gas for my '54 Ford and at least one date.  A simpler life for sure.

Yes Ed me  also.  My $5 would fill the gas tank with enough left over for drive-in movie, two large Cokes, order of French fries.

When I was in high school I ran a Union 76 station by myself on Sundays. I had to pump the gas, wash the windshields and check the oil and tires. And pass out the green stamps. I also had to do the lube jobs, which included a car wash, and clean the interior. Between these tasks, I had to clean the restrooms and sweep and wash down the entire station property. Afterward, I had to take all the money and receipts and drive to the owner's house and give them to him. If I didn't wash the windshield just right on some customer's cars, they would tell him and I would be called to his house and called on the carpet. I wanted to take just one Sunday off so I could go to a Boy Scout function at the beach. He fired me. Those were the days. He was a retired Navy Commander from WWII. That was around 1950. Can't remember the price of gas back then, but it wasn't much.

Lowest Regular Gas Hawthorne Ca. At Costco $2.50 per gal. Hawthorne is approximately 15 miles Southwest of Downtown Los Angeles. Californian's screwed again by Big Oil Refineries and their unscheduled maintenance shutdowns causing gasoline supply shortages. Therefore we all have to pay more at the pump. A lot more as you can see.

had an interesting experience last weekend Drove round-trip Santa Rosa Lancaster Pasadena Bakersfield Santa Rosa.. Gas prices pretty stable @ 2.50-2.75. One exception; at the Kettleman City exit 0n I-5 prices were a full dollar higher at all the gas stations .(there's an In & Out burger there !) Brazen price fixing and collusion.
