Installing 2-DIN Audio In LD Dash November 15, 2015, 12:36:51 pm Yahoo Message Number: 156983Has anyone done this? If so what if any difficulties did you encounter? I know some LD's had the sealant installed behind the original audio unit and removing them wasn't fun. Since mine isn't the original unit hoping I won't run into that. My 1-DIN Alpine Stereo is dead and I'm looking at Installing an upgraded 2-DIN unit.bobmoore14

Just in case anyone else was wondering here is a link. I can think of several things one could use a bigger set for. What specifically did you have in mind? I may want to copy you. Re: Installing 2-DIN Audio In LD Dash Reply #2 – November 15, 2015, 04:51:13 pm Yahoo Message Number: 156986I had installed a Kenwood 2 DIN 7" DDX672BH. It has Bluetooth, XM Sat Radio, plays from a USB stick, in-motion DVD. I tried a Pioneer first, but has software issues, so went with the Kenwood. I also upgraded the cab and house speakers to J&L's.I love it. Phones stays connected via Bluetooth, XM is great and I can put my music on a USB and play from it. It also has video inputs for back up camera, but I kept the factory installed screen. The installer had no issues issues fitting it in the space, no sealant or anything.Bob Lawhon '03 23.5 FD
Re: Installing 2-DIN Audio In LD Dash Reply #3 – November 15, 2015, 04:57:09 pm Yahoo Message Number: 156988I see significant dashboard "remodeling" being necessary to stuff a 2 DIN unit into a 1 DIN hole; to me, this plan is like trying to stuff 10 pounds of potatoes in a 5-pound sack. But, as ever, YMMV; maybe there's an advantage, e.g., in features, function, and/or performance, that I'm not seeing?Joan
Re: Installing 2-DIN Audio In LD Dash Reply #4 – November 15, 2015, 05:16:44 pm Yahoo Message Number: 156989I looked at this unit on Crutchfield.com, used the "Does It Fit My Car?" feature, and selected "Econoline" (my rig is a 2003) in the vehicle selections. According to the installation information for that particular year (I didn't look at other model years), the unit requires a "modified fit"; the parts needed are listed, and there's a "Help" feature available.http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113DDX672B/Kenwood-DDX672BH.html?tp=20217Just offering a FYI..... ;-)Joan
Re: Installing 2-DIN Audio In LD Dash Reply #5 – November 15, 2015, 07:42:01 pm Yahoo Message Number: 156994When I put a double-DIN Kenwood stereo in my 2003 Lazy Daze a few years ago, it required a lot of surgery. Since then, I've seen a few posts that indicate this is a relatively easy installation, requiring only minor trimming and/or an adapter kit (American International FMK552).I don't know how to account for the difference in difficulty, since the Ford dashboard didn't change between 1997 and 2008. All I can say is that I don't work any harder than I have to, and in my case I had to work pretty hard! Others had different experiences.Andy Baird
Re: Installing 2-DIN Audio In LD Dash Reply #6 – November 15, 2015, 08:08:41 pm Yahoo Message Number: 156995well, as I said, the audio shop guys did it, but I watched them and other than some minor trimming and the new interior adapter or bracket, it didn't look too hard. But I'm sure they do a lot of installs and know all the tricks plus they have really long thin fingers.

They know just what it takes to prperly mount a particular radio in each year's model. Good folks with great customer service.Larry
Re: Installing 2-DIN Audio In LD Dash Reply #9 – November 16, 2015, 12:42:54 pm Yahoo Message Number: 157005Thanks to all that replied to my query about a 2-DIN radio install. I am ordering a Kenwood DVD/Radio player from Crutchfield. It comes with an installation kit and lifetime technical support. Could have got it cheaper on E-Bay but no service after the sale which is worth paying extra for IMO. It has a camera input. Wonder if I can integrate my backup camera into this and lose the standalone monitor. Then I could gain back a cup holder and make it easier to grab a beer while off-roading.bobmoore14

"I need a 2 DIN unit to get the DVD/Radio with 6.95" inch display and a camera input. Power amp is built in so I can rock the house. My Dash has a 2-DIN opening currently using one DIN for the Alpine Stereo that died. Some surgery will be required. Time to get the Dremel out. I need to find somewhere to install a subwoofer. BTW 2-DIN is an opening twice as high as the 1-DIN installed in many autos. No external dash surgery necessary. (I think.)bobmoore14Long Live Slightly Stoopid
