I just saw pn Bonnie Jacobs post re her battery problems that she was coming from the factory after a roof reseal and it made realize. I am getting close to the time for a roof reseal on my 2007 MB. I live 1000 miles away from the factory but I think it would be best to have them reseal it so I know I get a quality job-especially since I live in the rainy Pacific Northwest.(well hopefully it will be back to being rainy this year!)

Can someone give me an idea of the cost to reseal the roof and how long I would have to leave my coach there? Last year Vince said it would take at least three days before the vent covers could be put back on after the roof was resealed which could take several days. I dread trying to find a place to stay down there for that long and I am thinking it might be better to drive down and leave the coach and then fly back home and fly back when the coach is done.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

A month or so ago, I dropped my rig off and had a round trip ticket on Southwest. Todd dropped me off at the airport, too! It worked great, and probably much cheaper than a room for 3 nights. That said, even cheaper would be to buy Eternabond online and do it yourself? Vince said that they've been really busy and my guess it's still the case.

Stephany, when I had my Lazy Daze repainted by the factory last year (which took a little over two weeks), I rented a cheerful bungalow in Pasadena via AirBnB. The cottage was immaculate, the owner was very helpful, and the whole experience was quite pleasant. At $98 a night, it was WAY better than staying in a hotel or motel, and probably no more costly than a round-trip flight.

Stephany, Having just lived through a bunch of motels in and around the Inland Empire, I would recommend the Best Western Pine Tree. Nice physical lay out and fairly handy to Lazy Daze. I was in that area for about ten days and went to Newport Beach over the weekend. Stayed at the Newport Channel Inn. No place I stayed was over $100. There are some good, inexpensive restaurants around....eating was the most fun thing to do there. If I had had a better idea of how long things would take I probably would have tried AirBnB too.

If one does the motel (or other lodging) thing while a rig is at the factory, one needs a vehicle. JMHO (and depending on how long the factory visit is), but unless one just wants to sit cooped up in a motel (I'd rather eat glass) while waiting, transportation is a necessity. Without a toad or a rental or friends with a car, even 2-3 days will be a very long confinement! But, YMMV.

Someone mentioned it briefly earlier, but I would sure give some serious thought to $100 worth of Eternabond and a day's labor. You can seal the long seams and around all the vents/stacks  pretty easily. The LD Companion

Is a good place to look for advice.

If you don't feel comfortable with the project, there may be an experienced RV repair person in your area.

Of course, you can't go wrong with the factory. $$$

--- The Eternabond cost is a fair estimate, but how *long* the job takes depends on multiple factors! ;-)

I "labored" for 3 days, about 3-4 hours each day when the sun was not blasting me or the roof (March, so the sun wasn't too bad), marking, cleaning, patching, prepping, and laying tape. That amount of time was about all my knees, even with knee pads, and contorting my no-longer-young person around the solar panels would take. Thorough prep takes quite a bit of time - at least, it took *me* a lot of time - and the job isn't worth doing unless one preps the surfaces to the max. Just saying... ;-)

YMMV, for sure.

...been a number of years, we used to stay at Kellogg West Conference Center on Cal Poly campus, setting on a hill overlooking campus & distant mountains...feels like a retreat...EZ walk near campus...nice hike-walking up "Palm Canyon" behind the Kellogg mansion (yep, Mr. Kellogg Corn Flakes donated the massive campus land...only caveat was Arabian Equestrian Center/Presentations need to perpetually remain)...yeah, so depending on season, you might catch a world class Arabian horse show...there is a theatre, not sure the schedule...massive library if you are a bookworm...gyms, et al...might find a "glass eating" class to boot!

...bus service is good just be careful where you get off, otherwise you might have a permanent stay at the nearby Forest Lawn Cemetery...

...the historic Quaker Town, Claremont is not far, with a complex of small, world class colleges...cute downtown & awesome big tree lined streets with "Ivy League" architecture to make superb scenic walking...

...Angeles National Forest is near, if you have a car, take a ride up Mt. Baldy at evening & take a kiss or more with your lover, re-imagineering yourselves as students of life!

...another Hotel option, if you have the funds of a "blue blood trust fund baby", stay at the Grand Hotel in Disneyland...serious, a life bucket check off! (years back, our 5 year old daughter won the Monsters Inc trip & 3 day stay at same...beyond fun!)
