Factory Installed Clock Question
Yahoo Message Number: 156584
For those LD amigos with a factory installed clock on the angled wall next to the bathroom (MB), could you explain to us if the clock is centered on the wall? Our clock is not centered and we're thinking that the LD factory must have a reason for not centering it.  For what it's worth, we trying to be thoughtful about making new holes in the walls unless we are very certain it's that necessary.  And so far, we have not made any new holes in the walls, cabinets, doors and so forth.

Having said all that, we have reviewed 100's of the photos (herein) for ideas about organizing and storing "stuff."  Lots and lots of very creative ideas ... but if they require new holes, then we're going to be slow to make that modification.  As everyone knows, it real difficult to undo a hole.

At any rate, thank you for any guidance on the factory clock.

Same here - the clock is adjacent to the front angle change.  I have no idea why it is not centered.

I just saw a newly-delivered 2015 TK; the large clock is a bit off-center in the middle of the wall to the right of the sink. I'm very aware that there are very few places to stick that big clock in a TK, but, in my galley, that wall space to the right of the sink is occupied with a paper towel holder (mounted under the cabinet), dish/hand towel hanger, and a 13" magnetic knife rack. For my purposes, I couldn't think of a less-convenient clock placement (in a TK), but YMMV.

Ed & Margee:

Unless The Mothership has undergone a shift in "thought" I believe your factory-installed clock is attached to the wall with a heavy-duty version of Velcro.  You can probably shift the clock by adding a bit of same to another point on the wall and move the clock that way.

You should make Dual-Lock fasteners your friend.  Dual-Lock is a 3M product and while hard to impossible to find in stores (once was found in Radio Shack stores and I ordered it once from a True-Value Hardware store), I found it in September on Amazon.

It is sold by several folks, but I ordered it from a hardware store like "Ron & Jim's."  I'll research it if you want me to.  Please note that while I used the product number off the original package (04862) that was labeled "Dual Lock" and the strips were about 3 inches long, the product I got was 1x1 strips and the package says "Auto/Advanced."

Please note that if you order from this seller, the price is about $35, but you get 6 packages of the fasteners with 4 pairs of 1x1 fasteners inside each package.  The shipment arrived very quickly.

I have festooned the interior our MB with paintings and objects and have used these fasteners to complete satisfaction.  I believe Andy has attached an outdoor light with the same product

This link may help to define which "dual-lock" product is needed and where one might get it. The link leads to the 3M product page; select a product, then click the red "Where to Buy" button. that appears under the product description. I haven't tested whether this source works; just offering it as a possibility.

It seems to us that you have answered our questions and even provided us a solution other than nails and screws!  I've bookmarked the 3m product and plan to order some of it.  So at the end of the day, thank you for your guidance.

A personal experience with hook & loop fasteners.
The "wood" finish on the wall panelling used by LD is actually printed onto the panelling. The panelling isn't stained and then finished.
The adhesive on the fastener may well remove the printed "wood" if you ever need to remove it for some reason.

We still find this to be a bit strange and there must be some reason.  When we make our first trip to the factory, I'm going to ask about it!   And we're really excited about that 3m Dual Lock Faster.  It kind of gives DW a green light!  I just hope she leave the basement alone.

We have mounted many things on the walls of our MB using regular Velcro, Industrial Velcro and 3M SuperLock.  Some of these items were fairly heavy.  We also used 3M Command series hangers quite a lot.  We recently removed most of these things from the walls.  The 3M Command hangers are easy.  For the Velcro and SuperLock, we used a hair dryer to soften the adhesive and carefully work the piece off with a putty knife, being careful not to gouge the wall covering.  Everything came off without damage.

Like Tina, I recommend 3M Dual Lock in preference to Velcro. Among other advantages, Dual Lock has a much stronger adhesive than Velcro, so it won't peel off or ooze in hot weather. In fact, its only drawback in a Lazy Daze is that if you try to remove it, it can pull away or distort the woodgrain vinyl covering the wooden paneling.

For more information about Dual Lock, see this page.
