Testing Products for Oxidized Paint
Yahoo Message Number: 156224
Some months ago there was a thread on removing paint oxidation using a variety of compounds/waxes/cleaners. Since my '02 crimson/white/maroon LD is beginning to show oxidation on the lower maroon areas, especially the compartment doors, I have wanted to test some products. Taking one compartment door, I first applied Meguiar's Ultimate Oxidation Remover (strong). Verdict: very little improvement. Then I applied Mequiar's Ultimate Compound (stronger) to the same patch. Verdict: very little improvement. Next I used Turtle Wax rubbing compound (strongest) in the same area. Verdict: very little improvement. And then just for grins, I applied a coating of NuFinish wax. No improvement. About the only thing I gained was a little shininess. The mottled, oxidized look was still there.
To me this confirms what I think Joan said, that there is little you can do for oxidized paint. Hopefully, YMMV.
