Lazy Daze in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area (1st Post)
Yahoo Message Number: 153277
We have been looking for a newer (used) Lazy Daze for sometime now, but without much luck.  I've seen one older model that was somewhat abused and didn't show very well.  We've never seen a newer LD and haven't been to the factory in California.  If anyone lives in the DFW area of Texas who owns a newer LD and would allows to take a peek, we'd sure be grateful.   Thanks in advance for any guidance.

To find a good used Lazy Daze will probably require a level of trust with the seller, and the willingness to drive many miles to inspect it. Get as many pictures as you can before checking it out. Ask the owner if he has documentation for the maintenance that was done. Talk is cheap and means nothing without the paperwork to back it up. Many people fly/drive to other states to find one. My own experience involved a 950 mile round trip, and a flight from Sacramento, CA. to L.A. to pick it up. Have cash in hand when making a deal. You can expect people to come along and offer more that the asking price after you "bought it". A deposit and signed sales agreement could save you some grief.
On the plus side you might make some friends. I bought mine from a Lady who's son is a wine maker. He left a bottle in the frig for me. We became friends and now I buy a case or 2 a year from him. Excellent quality and he couldn't be more honest. A great person I would have never met otherwise.

I had a very similar experience, Bob.  We bought a 2004 RB in 2007.  Purchased it from original owner.  Had to fly from Portland, OR to Chicago to get it and then drive it back.  It had fewer than 14,000 miles on it and looked brand new.  Seller was scrupulously honest.  There were two other bidders and I finally asked him what it would take to close the bidding and award the sale to me.  He told me, I said fine, flew to Chicago, and drove it home.
BUT, I googled him and asked for many pictures.  I checked out his employment, charitable and political activities, located his home address and examined his property with Google Earth.   I confirmed maintenance records, original bill of sale from Lazy Daze, and records for third-party upgrades (he spent 8,000 on air bag and other suspension upgrades).  Many LD options installed.  Be sure to verify the state emissions certificate, if required by the state.  Get the VIN and pay a small amount to run the number through one of the many services that will give you access to the national database.  It will tell you if it has been in major accidents and whether it has failed emissions testing.  It will verify dates and location of DMV registrations.
I was lucky.  Wealthy investment banker, said he was a Christian and meant it.  When his daughter graduated from college, I advised her on her resume and job opportunities in my field.  She is now in the Peace Corps.
My philosophy is:  check out the coach, of course, but also check out the person.  Ted

Gotta say, if a potential buyer were examining my religious, political, charitable, employment, or any other personal stuff that is basically none of their business, I would advise them to desist and inform them they will have to shop elsewhere. If they are simply concerned about how well I've maintained the rig and it's history and condition, they would be ill-advised to consider any such affiliations as a gauge of truthfulness and honesty, as history has shown.

I flew from Texas to San Francisco and drove mine home.
The longer I talked to the seller, the more confident I became that he was an outlaw; ...but I was buying the LD, not the seller.

Wise Words....Thank you for saying what I was thinking Steve.

To the O.P.,

You are buying a vehicle, not entering into a business venture or evaluating a personality.
Do you do a back round check on prospective friends? Creepy.

I live about 350 miles NE of Dallas in Northern Arkansas.I understand the difficulty trying to see\buy a Lazy Daze here in the middle of the country. After looking (from a distance) for over a year, I was fortunate to find an original owner, very well cared for 2003 about fifteen months ago in the Dallas area. If no opportunity to see one locally comes up, drop a note to my personal mail (rustic52 at gmail.com).Maybe we could find a way to get together for you to have a look at mine. Change is slow at Lazy Daze, so I don't think seeing an '03 vs. an '07 or '08 would make a big difference as far as what to expect.

Hello Bill,

Thank you for your kind offer.  We've been looking for a few months, but not a year.  And I will probably not tell my wife it might take a year!   If I ever score a LD, I'll post on the Yahoo LD group.

Take care

There use to be a Texas Lazy Daze Group but they have dissolved.  If you are interested I might be able to get you in contact with someone in Texas.

I have a 1986 so that won't help you much.

I've got to agree! I don't see how a person's religion, political affiliation, where s/he's employed, where they live, or which charities they support (or if they make any charitable contributions at all), has anything to do with purchasing an RV (or anything, really).

That investigation of the seller seems really creepy to me.  When buying a high ticket item, I believe in due diligence. But investigating some of that stuff seems like stalker behavior.

And this comes from a person that attends church, but when someone professes their religious values to promote trust..... well... I have my guard up even more.

The way that original owner tried to pit buyers against each other.... I know someone who tried to buy that rig, (and it wasn't me)...not the kind of person I would chose to do business with. But hey, that's me.
