Can we tow a small car in a 31' ??

Hi Everyone...

Can we tow a small car in a 31' if we are at max OCCC of 1800 lbs? Would the tow bar and accessories reduce the 1800 lb OCCC we are allowed?

Are there any 31' owners here who tow a dinghy?

Yes, but not by very much. The "tongue weight" of an average towbar is probably less than fifty pounds, and the accessories added to a motorhome for towing weigh very little. There are plenty of 31' LD owners who tow cars.

The OCCC is limited by GVWR of the E-450 chassis. Towing limits are primarily determined by the GCWR (Gross Combined vehicle Weight Rating). The weight of the tow bar itself does count against the GVWR, but it is usually not a problem. Towing a trailer is a different story. The current E-450s have a GVWR of 14,500 and a GCWR of 22,000.

Probably lots of us 31'er owners who tow a car. I used to tow a 3000 lb Honda Accord and now tow a 3500 lb Honda CR-V. Both tow fine and I usually travel close to max OCCC. I wouldn't recommend towing anything much above 3500 lbs.

4 flat seems to be the preferred method...

At this rate by the time I get to the LD GTG I won't have any questions!

Mike, we tow a 2011 Honda CRV with our 2013 31IB. We periodically run thru a CAT scale to keep an eye on the weights. Highest was on a 3 mo excursion 14,140 for the rig and 3900 for the towd (and rolling storage shed). PM me at joel dash wiley at sbcglobal dot net for more details. joel
