O.C.C.C. – (Occupant and Cargo Carrying Capacity) question...
Yahoo Message Number: 152250
Hi-

My wife and I are looking at a 31' LD.  This would be our first MH.  I see that the OCCC is only 1800 lbs...That seems low to me.  With me my wife and pets and kennels it seems we would only have about 1000.lbs left for personal items.  When you are fully stocked with personal items (food, clothing, etc) is it pretty easy to exceed that 1000lbs OCCC?

Thanks,

MIke

Now you know. The 31' models are wonderful with a fixed bed(s), the one item most want...but they don't have the cargo capacity that most need. I would say just about every 31' LD that I have looked (and that's a lot) were at or over its GVW.
Do not plan of filling the cavernous storage bays with anything but very light items. A 1000-lbs sound like a lot but it isn't much when fully stocking an RV.
. Now imagine how heavy some of the other brands(SOBs) that have 31' models with one or more slides.
Consider one of the 27' LD models, they have more CCC.

And it doesn't take into account the weight of any options.
OCCC does include 150# for each seat belted position so, depending on the number of seat belted positions in the 31' LD, you might be able to pick up a few pounds if you, your wife, and the pets weigh less than whatever that number is.  You could also pick up a few pounds by not traveling with a full tank of fresh water.  Still, it will be very easy to exceed the longer LD's GVWR, especially if you plan on fulltiming.

It depends upon what you plan to do with the RV, and how much of a "packrat" you are. (I'm guilty on that score.)

But in general, the OCCC of the 31' Lazy Dazes is not what I'd call generous. If you're planning weekend trips or short vacations, you probably won't have a problem. But if your intended uses are snowbirding (traveling for months at a time) or full-timing, you'll have to watch every pound like a hawk. The folks in this group who own 31-foot LDs can tell you what that's like.

The reason is simple: all three sizes of Lazy Daze motorhomes are built on the same Ford E450 chassis, so it's slightly over 14,000-pound maximum weight rating applies to all LDFs. It's obvious that when you go from 24' to 31' on the same chassis, adding five extra feet of coach body and frame extensions means adding thousands of pounds of dead weight--and subtracting thousands of pounds from what's available for you and your belongings... in other words, OCCC.

So yes, with the largest Lazy Dazes you'll have to be very careful if you're going to stay within the weight limits.

Sorry about those typos, folks. I do know the difference between "its" and "it's"!

I just about laughed when I saw the OCC was 1800 pounds. My old 2001 E-350 has a CCC of 550 pounds. I fulltime, am not light (Like my pies and ice cream and beer) and carry a bunch of stuff along with towing a Jeep and motorcycle. Had to get rid of the levelers that came with the rig just so I could get to maximum weight and not over. But if there were no limits what would I push?

Just remember don't throw anything away. You might need it someday.

Thanks Andy and others-

I am meeting up with an LD caravan next month in western Pa to scout out some different models.  I need to take some measurements and see if the 27' will work for us.
