Texas Vehicle Inspection and Registration

Texas has adopted a new inspection and registration process called Texas Two Step beginning March 1, 2015.

Step 1. Pass a vehicle inspection and retain your vehicle inspection report.
Step 2. Renew your annual registration by mail, online or in person, and your inspection status will be verified electronically. A passing inspection is required for registration.
You will be issued one sticker as proof of inspection and registration.

There are exceptions for those who are out of state so that you do not have to return just for an inspection.
