Upgrades to 2003 LD 30' IB
Yahoo Message Number: 151356
Hi all,
I just bought 2003 LD 30' IB from Robert Larson in AZ.  The IPD suspension upgrade is really nice, no body rolls!  Like Robert said, it drives like go-kart :) It really makes me want to add IPD upgrades to my 2004 LD 23.5' FD.  (Tired of body rolls/sways in FD)

My IB also has Banks Power upgrade.

I plan to use EternaBond tape along the roof seams.
For some place (i.e. small cracks, tiny seams) should I use sealant like "ProFlex RV Flexible Sealant"?
I just ordered Keetsa Luxurious Comfort Layer (mattress topper) for my queen bed mattress (the one that comes from factory).
My IB has old tube TV which I plan to replace with something like 40" LED TV (AXESS 40-Inch 1080p LED HDTV) for living room and Axess 24-Inch LED HDTV for bedroom.  I would like to have swing arm with tilt for living room (so I can use the storage door as I can swing the TV the other way around and open the storage doors).  What is recommend RV LED HDTV mount for living room? (one that needs to have something locked for traveling)
Since I am going to have LED HDTVs, I guess I need to replace the existing TV antenna (the one that comes from factory) with one that supports HDTV reception, what is recommend HDTV antenna for my IB?
I have TST TPMS (the pass through version) on my 2004 LD 23.5' FD and the problem is that I don't get reception of all 6 tires at once, always like 2 to 4 out of 6 tires.  Any other good TPMS that would allow full 6 tires reception at all times?

Thanks

Jamie

If you're talking about the batwing antenna for over-the-air reception, as far as I know the old-style batwing antennas are capable of receiving digital signals, so it doesn't really need to be replaced.  That being said, if I were going to watch over-the-air TV, I'd think seriously about getting something like the Winegard Razar that's an automatic antenna:
 http://www.winegard.com/rayzarauto

or this one:

Here are some other options from Winegard:

If you're talking about a satellite TV dish, since you're going to have two TVs, I'd recommend the Winegard Trav'ler, either for DirecTV or for Dish:

Depending on where the "small cracks" are, you might want to use 3M 5200 Fast Cure marine adhesive sealant. The link shows the 1 oz. tube, but it comes in a 3 oz. tube and a cartridge also. If you're not going to do a lot of sealing work at one time, the 1 oz. or 3 oz. sizes work better; the stuff really IS "fast cure", and it tends to harden in the tube/cartridge pretty quickly:

For hairline cracks, "Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure" is great:

Check marine supply stores; Amazon has it in a 3-pack, but a single bottle - which lasts a long time! - is listed as "unavailable".

My original Winegard antenna picks up HDTV and it is 14 yr.s old. I was under the misunderstanding that it needed to be replaced. Not so. Winegard sells a "digital" model which I think spreads the confusion. I can really tell the difference in HDTV on the Jensen LEDTV.

A basic antenna, such as installed by the factory, is just an antenna. It doesn't care if the signal being received is analog or digital. Unless the digital signal is way out of the frequency range of the antenna, it won't make a bit of difference.

Jamie,
I can tell you that finding a TV mount that swings and locks is tough. You might have to go directly to an RV manufacture that has one in their RV's. Check out mounts at monoprice.com. You cannot beat their prices. I have purchased several for our home. However, you will have to figure out a way to keep the TV from swing going down the road. I will say also that the mounts I have at home take two hands to adjust them. The are not lousy-goosey.
For TMS, I have TST (Truck System Technologies) (http://tsttruck.com/). I have their flow thru model on the RV and their non-flow thru model on our Jeep. I have had no problems with the non-flow thru ones. The flow thru ones have been a pain in the ass. But with that said, the company has been excellent in replacing the one that have gone bad-mainly not putting air in the tire and one was leaking through the value stem. The system has no problems picking up the motorhome or the Jeep sensors without an external antenna.
Also, IPD no longer makes suspension upgrades for motorhomes. They are still around, but that side of the business was bought out by Roadmaster a few years ago.

Hope this helps you, Tim

There is no magic answer to getting better off air TV reception - but there are choices, upgrades, trade-offs and a few downgrades . . .

The Winegard "Batwing" antenna, used for years by LD and others, is bi-directional. You have to aim it for best reception, but it receives off one side as well as the other, so you only need turn it through 180 degrees to find the strongest signal. The batwing is a gain antenna in that the received signal will be stronger than an omni-directional antenna (or non-directional antenna that does not need to be aimed.

If you have a "batwing" perhaps the easiest way to improve reception it is to add a Winegard Wingman, $25 on Amazon. This turns your bi-directional antenna into a directional antenna and increases its gain. Not as efficient as a big Yagi array, but there's not enough room for that, so it's a good compromise taking just a small footprint on the RV roof when folded down (the additional Wingman adds to the footprint but still fits nicely on my MB).

The Rayzar Air HDTV offers no reception advantage over the "Batwing" - in fact it will not perform as well as the Winegard Sensar IV (which is the same as the Batwing with added Wingman. I did a comparison between the two and the performance was virtually identical, with the Batwing/Wingman ever so slightly besting the Sensar IV). The Rayzar, like the original batwing style antenna, is bi-directional.  Stowed, the Rayzar looks like it will not fit in as narrow a spot as the Batwing.

To eek out a bit more TV signal and help with aiming your antenna, consider the replacing your original panel mount TV amplifier with this:

Winegard RFL-342 SensarPro White TV Signal Strength Meter

I agree with Bumper. The combination of the standard batwing antenna, the added wingman, and the SensarPro digital amp, provides an excellent off the air signal. We have this setup in our 2000 LD 30 IB, and it works great!

You can also use this website to find the location of the transmitters in your current location.

Jamie, I replaced the tube TV with a Vizio 26" TV several years ago on our '02 30'. I have photos of that installation including the swing mount if you would like to view them. Contact me off line.
And the others who posted about HDTV reception with the bat wing antenna are correct. It's the TV that senses the HD reception, not the bat wing antenna.

In every new TV installation, using adjustable mounts, I use a couple of eye hooks and a bungee to secure the TV from flying around on rough roads.
Do buy the highest quality mount as possible, they get beat up after being used in an environment they were never designed for.

Hello all,

Did mounted 39" Vizio LED TV on entertainment area, looks nice and works great.  Able to swing this TV around to easily access the storage doors.

Mounted 24" Axxess LED TV for bedroom.

Added 4 shelves to where the back chair is and placed my Concept 2 D rower stored upright on where front chair is.

Does anyone know where to get (other than mothership) the night light cover (orange) that is on the top of front cab?  It says "PM" on the front.
AT bottom is PM 00 15

Checked two RV stores and auto parts stores and they don't have them.

Thanks

Jamie
