Researching our first RV purchase
Yahoo Message Number: 151314
Hi all,
We are new to the group and are researching our first purchase.  We learned about LD in that process and are eager to learn more.  We are in our early 40's with an 11 year old daughter.  We are accustomed to long road trips and love visiting the National Parks.  We are an avid outdoor family that loves to hike.
We want a high quality RV that we can keep for years and build lasting memories in.  We don't want to think about needing to upgrade in a few years after buying junk.  We are set on a class C motorhome.  We do not want slideouts.  We want something safe and reliable that will help us enjoy our travels that much more.
Before we learned about LD, we had leaned toward a smaller Winnebago Minnie Winnie.  The problems that the mass produced RV's seem to have scare me to death, though.  I haven't been able to find any consistent problems with LD's at all.  People seem to buy them and keep them forever.  There must be a reason for that.
I'd like to know what your experiences are, good and bad with your LD's.
We are still saving our money, so are about 18-24 months out from a purchase.  How far in advance did you place your orders?
We are in love with the 27 Mid Bath floor plan.  Does anyone have any experience with it?
If you had to get another RV- would it be another LD, or would you choose something different?
We live in Houston.  Are there any groups in Texas or Lousiana that have LD rallies or gatherings that we could attend to learn more and actually see some units in person?
Thank you for sharing all the great information on this group.  I've learned alot already.

I can only say, being new myself, that I just purchased a 2003 23.5 FD that had been used by a fulltiming couple for the past 6 years, that aside from normal wear and tear (and very little of this) is in excellent condition. It is still tight and no squeaks or rattles, all systems work and I have only replaced the tires.
Says a lot to me about an 11 year old rig.

Hello John Dodge, I am sure you will receive many comments about the MB LD.

My wife and I have toured the USA full time for the past seven years with our 1998 MidBath.  Love it!  It's been a very reliable vehicle with an exceptional design for living on the road.  We found that having solar and a generator made a terrific difference as to where we camped and monthly expenses.  I heartily recommend a Lazy Daze motorhome, preferably one that is new or no older than the year 2005, depending on mileage.

Only in the past year have we had problems with the transmission (at 100,000 miles) which had to be replaced with a rebuild. Apparently this is not unusual for a Ford 450 V-10 engine.  My only complaint is that the gas mileage hovers around 8-10 miles a gallon.  It would be great to have an engine that gets around 20 mpg.

Good luck in your new quest.

David (1998 LD MB)

Hello John and Kristen,

Welcome to the group. I had a MB with two kids (and a few dogs), and it's the perfect floor plan for people with kids. We took many trips and put lots of miles on it. So can offer insight into the family travel/camping aspect.

In regards to looking at one, aside from the gathering that's been suggested, take a look in the groups database files. There is a LD location database, there are a couple of LD's in the Houston area listed.

Good luck with your research and purchase.
