where is cable splitter located?

Where is the cable splitter physically located in a 31?  I need to remove it so I can input the cable from an external portable satellite directly to a Directv receiver in the entertainment center..

I assume you have the Winegard combo antenna jack/12V outlet. If so, the splitter is integral, so there are jacks behind the plate for cable coax, antenna coax, and coax to a second tv. You might want to install a separate coax jack plate adjacent, and connect the cable coax to that - with the dish connected to the external cable jack. This would ensure the receiver can supply power to the LMB at the dish, and ensure there is no signal attenuation.

Externally there are two female jacks in one "box",  a cable input and a telephone input.
My recollection is in the entertainment center, at the TV, there is only a male cable end into the TV.  (The LD is in storage in Albuquerque.)

The cable that goes to the TV should end at a wall jack plate, and that plate has a tiny switch. When the switch is on, you are connected to the antenna. When it is off, you are connected to the external cable jack.
To access the jacks and cable I mentioned in the previous post, you must remove the wall plate. The electronic switching, splitter, and jacks for the attaching cables are all on a circuit board on the backside of that wall plate, so you cannot separate their functions. Note the wall plate has a connection to the coach 12V system, to do the switching and provide the Winegard antenna head with power for its RF preamp. That power is isolated from the cable hookup, and the cable connection might also isolate the D.C. power from your satellite receiver to the LMB on the dish. However, if you transfer the cable connection from the back of the wall plate to a new wall plate with just a coax barrel connector, that should work as the feed from your portable dish to your satellite receiver.

I think I will keep the old wall plate and add a new wall straight-thru coax plate.

I could insert a 2-way switch in front of both plates or I just can connect the TV  to the old plate when I am inputting cable TV and connect it to the new plate when I am using the portable Directv dish.

Alternately, I may just run a coax from the dish through a window using a flat window-pass-through and then to the Directv receiver.  I will use the SD portable dish less often than cable, especially on overnight stops.

I am under the impression the co-ax cable from the portable dish to the Directv receiver provides the electric power to the dish. Is that true?

Thanks, Steve.

As a postscript, I contacted Winegard to ask if the external cable connector thru to the front panel of the existing wallplate could pass the receiver-dish signal and DC power, and they confirmed it cannot. Thus, you WILL need to add another wall jack to re-route the inside end of the cable.

Thanks again!

Just so I am clear on exactly what to do,  I attach the cable from the outside portable dish to the LD's outside "cable" input, then I detach the inside end of the cable from the wall-through Winegard device, then reattach that same cable end to the satellite input of the Directv receiver.  Is that correct?

True, but LD provides little slack, so you will need an extension and a barrel coupler - ideally in a second wall plate for convenience.

Steve:  Any chance we can get you to trace the set up out or is it already someplace in the files?

If you pull out the wall plate and look at the Jacks in the back, where the cables are connected, the circuit board is marked antenna, tv2, and cable. On the front side is tv1, of course.
