Carry 2 kayaks January 26, 2015, 03:18:09 pm Yahoo Message Number: 150574I want to carry 2 10' kayaks for weekend trips and don't want to tow the car. I know it is not advised to put them on the roof so anyone have any ideas. Thanks John in OR.
Re: Carry 2 kayaks Reply #1 – January 26, 2015, 03:39:28 pm Yahoo Message Number: 150575Hello John in Oregon...My wife and I have carried two 14 ft Necky Manatu kayaks on the top of our 27 foot 1998 LD Midbath for the past seven years as full-timers. We also had a 13 foot solo canoe on top for six years until I sold it last year.My wife wanted to return to our community and family in Eugene, so we have the rig in storage now until the summer with the kayaks still on top when we are not on the road. They do not interfere with our solar panels, TV signals, etc. We've gone with the very simple method of two bars across the rig (in original screw holes), and use a rope to move the kayaks up or down. I'm age 78 and I've never had a problem with the ladder or roof, etc.We are thinking of getting lighter and smaller ones in the future, but not until we have fully explored Lake Powell.Email me if you want me to send some photos.Best rgards, David

We have done it for almost twenty years, with two different LDs (an 1983 and 2003), carrying a 16' and 17' sea kayak, plus gear. I consulted with LD to find out how to mount the racks safely.https://www.flickr.com/photos/lwade/sets/72157602095130748/show https://www.flickr.com/photos/lwade/sets/72157602095130624/showSee you on the waterLarry
