Hello fellow LDers.   In Sept., about a month after we picked up our new LD, we bought and installed a digital wireless backup camera from rear view safety.  We had some concerns since we had read poor reviews about wireless cameras/monitors but decided to take a chance since the poor reviews were mostly about the analog type.  It's been installed for about two months and has worked flawlessly, except for some road noise which was quickly quieted with a piece of duct tape placed over the camera speaker. We've taken week long trips to Sequoia/Kings Canyon and the eastern Sierras/ Bishop area, and have yet to have the monitor stop working.  We've also driven the LD on short trips near home (northern San Gabriel foothills) and no problems with camera/monitor connectivity.  It's great in helping us see all the traffic around us and does aid in backing up, although one of us still does the traditional hand signal routine.

It is supposed to be guaranteed to work up to 70 ft., but since our LD MB is 27', we can't vouch for that claim.  Also, vehicles look further away in the monitor than they actually are so we don't rely on it to change lanes.  Besides, the LD mirrors are more than adequate for lane changes.  Still, it's really nice to see what's around us while driving or parked.  And no wires! Whoo hoo!

So just in case anyone is thinking of installing a camera/monitor, you might want to check out their site.  Great service and a good price, too.

I ended up buying this one because of the good reviews on Amazon.  However, the money I saved from buying a wireless one, I pay for in the installation ...

We did the installation ourselves so didn't have to factor in that cost.  It was an easy install, except the part where I had to watch hubby drill a hole in our new LD.  Didn't think I could hold my breath that long. ;)

My point in posting about the system we got was to inform others that the digital wireless camera/monitor systems might be worth trying.  No long wires and extra hole drilling to contend with, and so far no interference and monitor failures as others have reported with the analog wireless versions.

I saw your comments on installing the wireless camera from RVS, and I'm going to try the same thing. If you don't mind sharing your ideas, I am curious about a few details. How did you fasten the camera to the coach? Which running light did you connect to for power and ground? Do you have any pictures of the installation? Thank you.

Yes. The wireless camera eliminates the signal cable from the camera to the monitor, but you still need to power the camera and the monitor. What I was asking was for specific methods of mounting the camera on the rear surface of the coach and for where to pick up power from the running lights. My monitor plugs into the 12volt power port on the dash. Thanks!
