Hi Bob, I read your post. Just an FYI on brakes. I went 95000 on my rear but they were getting close to the disc. I went ahead and paid extra and had the disc rotors turned also. Really makes for a smooth stop. My fronts are still only at half. Most of the braking is done in the rear. One other note. Now is a good time to change the rear end oil if you haven't done so already. Ford rec. at 60,000 when you tow. Safe travels, john leach, Co.

John:  Thanks for the tips.  I have scheduled a visit to a Ford approved service facility for when we get home.  I'll have the whole "enchilada" done: service the rear (I'll have to check my records as I believe I had this done but don't recall mileage), oil change with filter, fuel service, tranny service, etc. following the Ford service recommendations.   He will also do a full check up of the brake system as well.  From there I go down the road for an alignment check.
Thus far with the '06 and with our previous '99, following the Ford recommendations has served us well as no mechanical issues in nearly 100K miles.

Cheers,  Bob

Sounds like you have it under control. One other thing I did on the brake change was have them flush the fluid. I do the front brake caliper pins myself periodically so you might want to think of that. It is very simple to do once the front wheels are off. The bolts have a torque setting is all. They keep the front brakes from dragging after the brakes are applied. Having the trans serviced is good as they will do the filter. When I had mine done I noticed the fluid stayed a lot cleaner looking. I change my fluid out the drain plug every 15000 and add another 6-7 qts(whatever it takes) which really helps keep it cleaner. I'm at 106,000 now and getting ready to do it again after the Alaska trip. Keeps it nice and pink. Good luck on your service. Take care, john
