Another Electrical Tale

Near the end of our winter's trek, we had an event similar to Ted's  . In our case, it was a burned wire at the output end of our hard-wired surge protector .  The screw holding it had loosened just a bit and thus caused some arcing  . I tightened the screw and wrapped the burnt insulation with electrical tape as a stop-gap measure to get us home  .
Today I tackled the task of replacing the burnt wire .  While attempting to secure the new wire to the surge protector, I discovered that the offending terminal was loosened and damaged so that it is unsafe to use . Thus I need a new surge protector .
The one I had was TRC's Surge Protector Model 34520, hardwired in so it protects power from both shore power and the generator .  . It would be easiest to simply replace it with the same thing, since the mounting is taken care of .
But I'm wondering if the electrical experts here might recommend a different protector?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions .

Thanks, Larry, I had a hunch you would respond to this, and I was thinking that you were a fan of something other than the TRC .

Thanks again,

The Progressive Industries EMS0HW30C has proven to be dependable and repairable.
Many on the forum use them. It's easy top work on and the remote monitor allow the box to be mounted in an out of the way, convenient place and the monitor mounted up inside where it is easy to view.
It comes with a long cord for remote placement of the monitor. Our monitor provides useful information and is installed next to the LinkLite and solar controller. The monitor shows voltage, amperage and faults.

"My suggestion for a surge protector."

I second the motion. The Progressive IndustriesEMS-HW30Cpower conditioner (preferably the hardwired version) is a well-engineered unit that outperforms the SurgeGuard I used to own (before a lightning strike destroyed it) and offers useful features that you don't get with competing units.

Also, should the Progressive unit 'sacrifice itself', parts can be replaced for about $100.  Well engineered unit.  The company is quite helpful too.

"should the Progressive unit 'sacrifice itself', parts can be replaced for about $100."

Which is more than can be said for the SurgeGuard product. That one is a sealed unit, so when it fails, you buy a new one.
What's more, when I opened up my SurgeGuard unit after it had been zapped, I discovered that it's cheaply built, with inferior, low-power parts carelessly glued in place. I recommend against it.

"The company [Progressive Industries] is quite helpful too."

Yes, I can testify that they have 24-hour (!) tech support that is knowledgeable and helpful.

I made an uneducated purchasing decision and bought a Surgegard cheap on Ebay. Luckily it has survived a few brownouts, blackouts, and poor power sources at RV parks. It is bulky and now I find it is a throw away unit upon failure. If it dies I'll get the Progressive unit. Thanks for the info.
