Off Topic: Advice sought for renting an RV

The daughter of friends would like to rent an rv (accomodating 3 adults) in the Seattle area for a trip to Nevada, August 23--Sept 3.  The main rental companies are sold out for that period.  Any specific suggestions or general guidelines she could use to find one?  Thanks--Ted

Craigslist sometimes has private renters. She could try that route.

Sounds like a trip to the Black Rock Desert is in order.

Mid-summer rentals for any type of RV are long gone. Have them check the rental sites several times daily, looking for cancellations. They might find a private owner willing to rent to them.
I would hesitate to ask any friend to rent theirs, it will come back full of alkali dust and require a major cleaning.
Suggest that you don't offer your LD.

Has she tried looking outside of the Seattle area for rental company locations? This option (if anything is available at all) might require some travel to pick up the rental RV, but there might be something available in a smaller market area. The biggest rental companies are El Monte, Road Bear, Cruise America, and Camping World, but there are some small, 'local' ones, too; a search of a specific area should bring these up.

Personally, I would stay far away from a private rental, primarily due to insurance issues; the same goes for finding something on Craig's List. However, YMMV.

If the funds are available consider buying an RV and selling it when your trip is over. Renting is expensive and usually requires a hefty deposit. If you can find a good used unit at a fair price this is a better financial move. Good luck and avoid older units (unless it's a Lazy Daze:)
