Refrigerator won't light after running out of propane

Hi Kathy: Extreme repair measures are probably not needed. It is likely you  just have air in the propane lines. Is the propane tank valve on? The person  filling the tank turned it off, and expected you to turn it back on. Remember,  all the way on so gas won't leak out of the valve stem. Do your stove burners  and water heater light OK? Your floor plan determines the routing of the gas  lines, and the refrigerator is at the end of the line for the propane pipe going  to the refrigerator. Using up diluted propane at the device nearest the  refrigerator will speed up the process of getting undiluted propane to the  'frig, but you will still have to restart the 'frig many many times to get fresh  propane to it. There isn't much flow to the 'frig because without the pilot it  won't open the main gas valve to the burner. Even when you get the pilot to  light, it may take a few tries to get the main burner to stay on. All of your  gas appliances will have this problem, space heater too.
Don't be taking anything apart, no maintenance is needed. Just  don't run out of propane again. Being on electric for the 'frig will just delay  the problem until the next time you want to run it on propane.
I have experience with this problem because in my older ('78  SOB) the pilot for the stove top couldn't be turned off, and turning the propane  off at the tank between camping trips would always result in air in the lines.  Hard starting of the refrigerator was part of the routine. Good luck. Hope  this helped. RonB
