TPMS with Tireman Exteneded Valves
Yahoo Message Number: 146338
We have installed Ridgecrest's Tire Man extened valve stems  on our new 31IB.  I find that the sensors for the Truck Systems Technology 507 TPMS do not quite have enough room to install on the valve for the inner wheels.   The clearance problem is on the wheel cover which Tire Man calls simulators.  I emailed them to see if they have a solution, but haven't heard back yet.   Can the stems be bent slightly, or does one chop into the cover?    Any suggestions?
I also found that I needed to get some lug extenders to keep the wheel covers from rotating and cutting the stems.   Missed that in the orientation- I didn't mention I was getting the extended valve stems.
The shakedown cruise to Bodega Bay went well, and the list of forgottens  and ideas was only 25 long.  T'was rocking cozily in some near gale-force winds.

When I had the new tires mounted they used the short valve stems. In fact they were to short to check the air in the tires on the duels. Now with the TST units it is just right

Joel,

I'm interested in what you are experiencing here as my eyeball examination of my extenders seem to suggest a clearance problem for TST sensors.

Are you using the standard TST sensors or the flow-through sensors?

Please post when you have any further information on the fix.

Thanks.

I found the same clearance issues with the non-flow-through TST sensors as well as with my old Tire Traker sensors. I just widened the hole in the wheel covers with my left/right cutting aircraft tin snips. No more problem.

Thanks, Mike.  Confirms what my observations were leading me to believe.

I installed the TST "non-flow through" sensors on my Borg extended valves. To do this I added short 3/4 or 1 inch extensions (make sure they are the ones with threaded male (outer) ends. Some being sold have annular grooves that can be mistaken for threads. I already had these extensions on the front valve stems and only needed to add two to the rear duals.

I removed the "locking" outer housings from my sensors, as I most always park in relatively secure areas. This makes the sensors easy to remove and require less clearance. If I ever do have to leave my LD in a less than secure place, I'll remove the sensors beforehand.

Check for my followup note on May 20 with details.   short answers tst flow-thru sensor, and the stem can be adjusted fairly easily. joel
