Crossfire tire equalization...
Yahoo Message Number: 145897
I did a quick search of the forum and haven't found anyone that's used this system since y2k..  Someone asked back in '05 but got no responses.. Just wondering if anyone uses this system and what you thought of it.. I've heard good things but wanted to double-check.  I gather you'd want the 65# model they offer for the LD since I believe that is the tire pressure of interest -- at least for my '85 if I recall correctly.

So.. Does anyone run these and what are your thoughts??

To start with I think 65# is to low; more like 80. They are for the rear tires.
As far as temp difference in the tires I can not see that much difference in the inter and outer tires.
WE NEED SOME ONE WHO IS RUNNING A "TPMS" SYSTEM. THE TPMS UNITS GIVE THE TIRE PRESSURE OF ALL TIRES.
 You can not see the unit if you have wheel covers? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ???

On amazon there are owners report as late as 2013.
If there is a difference in wear rotating the tires will make up for this.
Few MH owners will put enough miles on the tires to ware them out in 6 years. That is the suposed life of the tires by the manufacture. After 6 years tires are to be replaced regardless the the miles on the tire.
The last owner of my LD put 50,000 miles on the MH. There was an easy 10,000 left on the tires.  If there was a 20% saving in the tire ware the tires would have gone 72,000 miles  (60,000x20%= 72,000 miles. Who is going to put 72,000 miles on the MH in 6 years.
Save your money and get a TPMS system which will tell you what the pressure in each tire is and also the heat in the tire. An the read out is on the dash not on the tire where you will not be able to monitor it.

I have never seen a set in use.
It isn't a bad idea and I like the built in safety features.
With TPMS becoming more popular, there isn't much of a demand.

Rear tire pressure depends on how much weight the rear axle carries.
For those running a 22',  23.5', or 24' LD model,  65-psi is plenty for us. Our rear axles do not carry the weight that the longer models do.
Rick has a 22' G30 chassis with an 11,000 GVW.

Thanks for chiming in Larry.. Actually I've got the 24' LD (1985) --
I've read a number of comments on these installations regarding extended tread life when using this device.. Of course, I guess it really depends as most of us may not even wear out any of the LD's tires before they need replacement at the prescribed age of ~6 years.  However, people really like the ability to inflate one place and both tires get inflated simultaneously.. The cost is not bad either at something like $51/ea and only 2 needed.

LD is a 2005 23,6 mid dinette.

To start with my MH would have be over loaded if I had an 11,000 GVW. I had a weight of 12,340.
When I went to Alaska in 2012 I left  Denver CO with a full tank of Gas. I came to a WY state scale some where in WY  on I-25 and pulled in and had had the MH weighted.
There was only me  210# and a 50# dog. No one else. No trailer for tong weight or auto being  pulled. Nothing on the trailer hitch. Full fresh water tank. The holding tanks  were empty. Holding tanks could have added at least 300#.
The gas had to  be down at least 20 gal because of the miles I had drove.

Front axle was  3780#

Rear axle was 8560#

I can add at least 150# for lost gas.  8560+150=8710

That would give me 4305# per set of dulies. (8610/2= 4355#

The tires  that we run are 225x75x16
I thing that there would be more weight on the  drivers side. So you go by the heaviest side for air pressure. Forget  that.

Michelin tire chart shows: 3970# = 60# of air

4300# = 65#

4440# = 70#

4660# =  75#

4940# =80#

The holding tanks will add a minimum of 300#. Now I have 4505
If I had 400 more lb that would mean 80# of air. 2 or 3 more persons in the  MH will get you to needing 80# of air. On the trip to Alaska I did not take the  Honda generator or pull the trailer with the ATV. These 2 would have added  400#
I checked the air in Denver (7000 feet above sea lever). I had 80#  of air. As my altitude dropped the tire pressure also dropped.
As I went  north my air pressure would have dropped to as low as 75#. Once again my tire  pressure is to low for the load I had.
If the tires are a little over inflated they will wear more in the center but  your mileage will go up. The cost of gas would easily off set the cost of tire  wear. If your tires are under inflated your mileage will drop and you will over  work the side wall and the tire will fail.
Since very few will wear the tires out in 6 year it is better to be over  inflated by 10#  and get the better mileage than have the tire fail because you  over worked the side wall. The smaller MH have the advantage that they do not  have the high weight in the unit for the tires we run. But the larger LD MH have  more weight to start with and more room for gear and passenger yet run the same  tires and become VERY easy to over load. You will find that most MH on the road  are over loaded for the tires they run.

$100 is a lot to pay to be able to check tire pressure.in rear tires. Most tire places will check your tire pressure if you bought the tires from them. Having the same tire pressure in both tires is a big come on to get you to buy there unit. Having the same tire pressure will not add life to the tires unless you are putting over 60,000 miles in less that 6 years. VERY few will put 10,000 miles on the MH in a year. The higher tire pressure will give you better milage. Spend an extra $170 and get a TPMS unit. This will  tell you the pressure and temp in each tire. Plus you know if you have a tire that is going flat. A tire that has gone flat will come apart and do over $5000 of damage to a wheel well before you can think of stoping. Most tire shops will rotate your tires for free when you by the tires there. This will take care of the need for the tire equaliziar.

I have a set of these and ran the mom my LD until I moved the TPMS from my Sprinter over to the LD. Mine were set for 80#, but they can be calibrated how ever you want. The best thing about them is the ability to equally air the duals at one time, from one point. Another good thing is that they NEVER gave false readings either high or low, I've had both with the TPMS. You can run both systems if you so desire.

Motorhomes are unique vehicles as they run at, or near their GVW 100% of the time. Your vehicle, your call as to what to do.
