Memory foam for bed over cab April 23, 2014, 03:18:32 pm Yahoo Message Number: 145895The Queen size Biogel memory foam mattress topper that I bought from Costco for my '99 RB is extremely comfortable and affordable, but there is 1 issue I'd like to rectify. The topper is about 6 inches too wide and hangs over the edge of the bed causing an unsightly appearance. Can anyone recommend a specific topper and supplier with a perfect size for our LD bed over cab?

I did this with two memory foam mattress toppers that I have; works fine. We bought ours at Costco. BBB is another good place to look. Foam memory pads can be trimmed to size. An electric carving knife is the easiest way to cut it at home.Larry

Re: Memory foam for bed over cab Reply #6 – April 24, 2014, 04:12:50 am Yahoo Message Number: 145911Regarding cutting it to size, etc., and being able to use again in its original form.I got a NEW sawtooth blade for a small handsaw, cut four inches off my TempurPedic queen size for the short queen in my RV, wrapped the cut piece in a sheet and used it at the head of the bed, and basted the original covers closed around the now shorter mattress, preserving the original zipper et al. Couple years later, I removed the mattress, reinserted the cut piece, zipped up the original covers (there were two) and now cannot tell the difference with it on a regular queen bed. The inner foamy material in the TempurPedic is a bit sticky, so it tends to stick to itself nicely when placed back together. I do not like Memory Foam, so have not tried to do this with that, but the cutting process should work the same, maybe better if the foam is not sticky, but maybe not as good if putting it back together.s/Terry Apple, 2012/13 27-RB
Re: Memory foam for bed over cab Reply #7 – April 24, 2014, 12:34:08 pm Yahoo Message Number: 145918"I do not like Memory Foam."I'm a little confused. Your Tempur-Pedic mattress is filled with viscoelastic foam, commonly referred to as "memory foam." There are varying density grades of memory foam, but it's all basically the same stuff, and that's what's in your mattress. Perhaps the memory foam you said you disliked was the inexpensive low-density type?Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels

Re: Memory foam for bed over cab Reply #9 – May 07, 2014, 04:22:37 am Yahoo Message Number: 146128I appreciate the referral and after checking price decided to order from Costco online. We have a store nearby so it is very convenient to be able to return the toppers directly to the store if they don't work out. Found a Twin XL that fits perfectly on the longer couch (partially extended out from the wall with the armrests used to fill in the gap between the seat cushion and the wall). The Twin XL is 6" thick and came with a very plush cover already encasing the memory foam material. I ordered a FULL size for the bed over cab and it fits much better than the Queen that had been previously in use. This makes 4 different types of memory foam beds that I have purchased since getting our LD in '12. There is quite a bit of variation between them in density and "feel" and again Costco is a great option because of their no hassle return policy. The price was quite reasonable (about $150 each) which fit with my budget. Haven't tried the 2 new beds yet but initial impressions are favorable. The Twin XL is a bit softer than the FULL which is very firm but I think will work. As far as cutting or trimming these things, I'm glad I didn't have to go that route! The original toppers that we bought for Bessie (and didn't work out because of the size issues) worked out great on our regular beds at home!Todd '99 RB and "02 Honda CRV

Kind of scary how much a memory mattress grows, once released from its wraps.Larry
