Seat belt problem

We bought our 96 TK baby in October from an older couple who had bought it from a doctor. They never checked the rear seatbelts and neither did I other than to ask when I saw there were only 2 if there were others, and I was told yes, they were under the sofa box.  Well, now that we are getting ready to travel with our THREE grandchildren, this has become an issue.  Our local RV dealership said they won't try to do it and frankly don't like the ones that exist as they do not fit today's seatbelt codes regs whatever..  The 'mothership' said can't be done it is a factory build install.  My daughter insists on seat belts for each kid, and truthfully so do I. Our option is to find a solution or take the car with us when we travel.  We are hoping not to have to use this solution.

Your local RV shop is right, the seat belts do not comply with passenger car crash regulations. RVs are a bit more loose in their requirements but realistically, sitting sideways is never going to be as safe as a engineered seat, facing forward. The best protected occupants ares sitting in the driver's and passenger seats.
The good news is that RVs have low accident and injury rates.
In many model of LDs, it's possible to add another seat belt, using the same methods as the Factory, drilling through the floor and using big  bolts and large-diameter washers to spread the loading. I haven no idea of the suitability of doing this in you LD without looking at it.
I doubt if most shops will install another belt due to the liability issues.

Thanks for your input. We will see how it goes. I also tried to change my name and maybe it worked.

RVs also have the mass of the vehicle figured in as part of the safety factor.  That's why vehicles over 10,000 lbs (From my fading memory) do not have the same requirements as smaller vehicles.  We have 5. point harness seats at the lowered dinette for youngsters, mostly to keep them in place and to keep them safer.  Other seats are in the back sofa, but not behind the bath.
