Repairs needed (again): traveling in SoCal/SE Cal--willing to go to
Yahoo Message Number: 145445
I have two items that need to be repaired, both of which were installed improperly initially and also were not repaired properly when the coach was taken to yet another shop less than one month ago, while we were travelling in southern California.
Sorry for the long message; I thought it would be useful to describe both the problems and our travelling route in detail so those wishing to respond can post suggestions for repair people along our route who are knowledgeable about these problems.

The items are:

1.SeeLeveL II wet tank monitoring system (sometimes they work, sometimes they don't: "Err", "Sht", "Opn").LPG always works. Second shop could not find anything wrong with the connectors and recommended replacing the entire system with a new one.

2.Battery monitoring system (Trimetric):had whole house inverter installed, but it was not connected to shunt and not fused. SoCal repair shop fixed those problems, but screwed up the Trimetric wiring in the process. The Trimetric panel now shows increasingly negative ("-") amp hours when the solar panels are charging the batteries during the day, but the charging light indicator is out. In the evening, when there is a net outflow of current (batteries are discharging), the charging indicator is lit and cumulative amp hours display shows rising positive numbers. So, expected data when charging and when discharging are reversed (wiring now "crossed").These data were displayed properly before the second shop moved the shunt (at my request), connected the inverter to the shunt, and installed a 300-amp fuse (I supplied) on the positive side of the inverter.

Naturally, we are frustrated and want to get these items fixed once and for all. Yes, we could go back to the SoCal shop and insist that they correct their work, but we are far away and did not plan to return to the East Bay via their location.
We are now in Joshua Tree NP and are considering going to Quartzite to have these two items repaired, since we have heard that there are repair people there. Via this group, I have heard repeatedly about Mike Sylvester, but don't know if he is a practical solution (due to travel distance).
So, is there a good repair person in Quartzite in March that could solve these problems?Any other suggestions for solving these problems would be greatly appreciated. Our plan was to go from Joshua Tree to Parker, via 62 to explore the Colorado River valley to Needles, and then head back to the East Bay via I-40, Bakersfield, and I-5.We are now considering going to Quartzite (depending on your responses) via I-10 through Blythe.
Thanks--Ted

Ted There are two small wires on the shunt, as well as the battery  cable. They were likely flipped when the new shunt was installed.  Disconnect and reverse the two small wires, on the shunt, to correct the charge  indicator.

The SeeLevel may have a bad connection or ground.
Suggest calling SeeLevel's customer service for advice on what may be wrong and to see it they have a shop to recommend .
Mike  Sylvester is not working on LDs at this time. No one knows if he will  return to the RV business after losing his wife/business partner.

Thanks, Larry.  I'll try the fix on the Trimetric.  Calling Garnet on the SeeLevel II is something I should have thought about.  As usual, your suggestions are a topnotch.  Thanks--Ted

Three wires on the Trimetric shunt. One closest to the battery and two on the post away from the battery.
There are several ways they could have been wrongly reattached. The instructions are available on line, I think.

Thanks Larry and Harry.  Larry, your suggested fix was the correct solution.  The signal pairs were crossed on the shunt terminals.  I switched them back to the original installation, and the Trimetric is reading perfectly.  I will be reporting shortly on some of the work that was done at this shop and what I was charged.
I will call Garnet about the SeeLeveL II malfunctions, but getting under the coach and trying to fix the connections  at the tanks myself is a nonstarter.  Once I have a proposed solution from Garnet, then I must find someone competent to execute it.  Thanks again for your expert advice; I am very grateful.--Ted

I would go to the Yahoo Lazy Daze Quartzite group and post to see if John Leach is attending this January. He is a very good Lazy Daze mechanic and I have seen him fixing others problems at the "Q". If anywhere near SoCal contact Larry Wade. He has done all the work on my LD and his work and engineering skills are first rate. I don't think you'll find anyone that knows more about Lazy Daze RV's.
