1992 RB Generator Power Question
Yahoo Message Number: 145069
Can anyone tell me if there is a switch to be thrown to use generator power rather than shore power?  If there is, where is it?  If there is no switch how does the rig know to use generator power?  Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

Secondary question... when on generator power, are the A/C duplex outlets powered?

Thanks, Ginger (1992 RB)

Hi Ginger; There is a switch, but it is thrown automatically (a relay  hidden near the power Convertor) by 110VAC supplied by the generator. A time  delay of about 15 seconds after you start it, allows the generator engine to get  up to speed and stabilize before loads are applied to the electricity generator.  All loads from air conditioner to outlets to converter supplying 12 volts DC to  12 volt devices (lights, heater, water pump, etc.) are supplied with 110VAC from  the generator.
If you had shore power supplying power to the motorhome, that  is disconnected, by the same relay, when the generator connects itself to the  motorhome. Hope that helped. RonB

Hi Ginger, I am no electrical genius, so I'll just share what I've learned the hard way:
If you've got the generator running just fine, but no power is working inside the rig, simply go outside to the generator and flip the little breaker that is on the generator.  It looks like a light switch turned sideways on my MicroQuiet 4000 generator (I had the generator installed in 2007, so it is not an Emerald).  Ta daaa!!!  So blessedly simple, I love it!  Hopefully that will help, :) (p.s.  I got to meet the wonderful Kathy Lautz in person in Austin on Saturday!!  Who-hooo!  Love my LD friends!)
