Michelin Recall Experience January 03, 2014, 02:59:15 pm Yahoo Message Number: 144382Went in for the recall. Our date code was 2011 which is in the recall window. Michelin didn't have any LTX M+S available so they sent 6 XPS RIB tires which is an upgrade. The tires are $70/tire more expensive. Absolutely no charge except for the $20 tip to the guys doing the work. It is a pain to deal with tire sensors, Tireman valve stems, and me looking over their shoulder so I try to make it worth it.If anyone knows anything about Michelin XPS RIB tires, please post. Re: Michelin Recall Experience Reply #1 – January 03, 2014, 03:43:34 pm Yahoo Message Number: 144383I am surprised that Michelin didn't replace your LTX MS tires with LTX MS2 tires. They are similar tires. The XPS Rib tire is very different. It is not all-weather, and it is all steel-belted. My experience with XPS Rib tires for several years was that they have a much harsher ride than the LTX MS.On the positive side, the XPS Rib has slightly better gas mileage (less rolling reistance from the tread), and will last a long time if you keep them covered to avoid sidewall cracking. The XPS Rib is designed for high mile commercial trucks.Kevin Lindsay Garden Grove CA

Re: Michelin Recall Experience Reply #3 – January 03, 2014, 03:55:55 pm Yahoo Message Number: 144385I'm with you Bill, it is a PITA to get it out & run 50 miles to my nearest Discount Tire, then bring it back to park, now if we were headed somewhere....course on second thought, it would still be a PITA to have to spend 1/2 a day sitting in a tire shop !
Re: Michelin Recall Experience Reply #4 – January 03, 2014, 06:42:54 pm Yahoo Message Number: 144387I have limited experience with Ribs and I think that they are fine in southern CA and other sunny places. However, if you take them to the "snow digger" country in the winter, you will probably wish that you had your LTX-MS tires back.Doug Baker
Re: Michelin Recall Experience Reply #5 – January 03, 2014, 07:20:55 pm Yahoo Message Number: 144388I have been reading your comments about the tire recall but, I have not seen the details of the recall or, the "window" referred to. Where can I find the details about the recall?A few months ago, we purchased an LD in California and drove it back to NC. The dates on the Michelin tires are 2008. I am trying to determine if they fall within the recall parameters. Thanks for any help that is available.Jim, 2004 LD

Re: Michelin Recall Experience Reply #7 – January 03, 2014, 11:08:45 pm Yahoo Message Number: 144391When I hear of only some tires are being replaced on some rigs, I worry that others may experience my misunderstanding. Y'all please remember that the date code is week and year. The recall is for: "tires were produced between January 2010 and June 2012" On the safety recall, they list it like this: 0210 - 2512I had some tires that were like 2810 and thought they weren't included in the recall because OBVIOUSLY any 2800's are beyond 2512, right?See the confusion? I wasn't thinking that 28 was the week. So I initially thought that only 3 of my 6 tires were within the recall range, but all of them were replaced once the tire shop checked the dates (thank goodness).Remember, read the week and year, not sequentially.Hope that helps someone as dizzy as me. Re: Michelin Recall Experience Reply #8 – January 04, 2014, 12:01:15 am Yahoo Message Number: 14439328 is the week. It is the 28th week of the year 2010. 28th week would be about the first week in July 2010In fact if it was 2800 it would not be in the recall. 2800 is the 28 week of the year 2000. So it is 10 years before the recallFor 0210-2512 the recall would have been about 128 weeks of production

Re: Michelin Recall Experience Reply #10 – January 06, 2014, 03:05:40 pm Yahoo Message Number: 144423Tyre Date code: 2012. How about those numbers. I had to look twice. That is the code for both front tires so I did not check the rears as they are all covered up and much more difficult to get to on a windy day. As I recall all the dates were just about the same. I went to Alban Tire in Springfield VA (http://www.albantire.com), the local Michelin dealer. They told me to come in at my convenience. I will wait for the record cold to pass.John
