Repair Manual for E 450 Ford Heavy Duty by Haynes or Others.

I have been searching for the above manual and have not been successful so far. Does anyone know if such a manual exists. The only one close to it is the 1992 thru 2005 manual for the E150 thru E 350, which I have.
Beside the complete truck shop manual for $ 275.-, does such a manual exist? How close is the E305 versus the E450 technically with the exception that the parts may be a little heavier?

We discussed manuals and where to get them just a few weeks ago; see message #143622and the resulting thread. You can generally find official Ford E450 shop manuals (volumes 1 and 2 plus electrical) used on eBay for about $30-$40, or download them in PDF format for about the same price. I wouldn't waste time on any third-party manuals when you can get the real thing at such affordable prices.

I have a complete set of the official Ford manuals for the 2006 E450 which includes the 2-manual workshop set and the wiring manual.  Very good to excellent condition.  These are not copies; they are the actual manuals. If you are interested, email me.

Hi Andy,
Someone did have link to a site that offered Ford manuals in pdf format, but the E450 (or at least for the 2004 chassis I have) was not one of them. Do you have link to a site that has it?
I wouldn't mind a 3rd party manual like Haynes or others, having used them for several cars and minivans, but again, I didn't find any of them offering a pdf for the E450, or even a printed one. Maybe someone searches better than I do, and will provide a source.

Dan,
I have a 2001 Lazy Daze Mid-bath on an E450 chassis. Do you happen to know if there are many changes made by Ford during these years. If not, I am very interested. I am not planning to do major overhauls of engines or transmissions but more for brake work and other incidental maintenance and simple repairs.

I was able to find some kind of a service and repair manual for the 2000 through 2004 Ford E450 on EB for around $12.--. Acoording to the information it also covered the E150, E250 and E350. How good it is, I do not know. For this price I thought it was worth-while the gamble.

I would not recommend purchasing the 2006 service manuals for a 2001 chassis.  You should have the manuals that cover your specific chassis year and the E450 manual is separate from the other E-series chassis.

Three reasons that I can think of:  1) You have the Ford-correct information for parts and service procedures if you decide to do something yourself; 2) you have the manuals to see if a service facility is being truthful with you about the parts and labor needed to do a repair that you can't do yourself; 3) you have the manuals in the event you are at a service facility that you can trust but doesn't have the manuals.

If you are going to bother buying a Service Manual, get the right one and make sure it's a real Factory manual, not a Haynes of Chilton, they are too generic, covering too many years and models. From a professional mechanic's point of view, they are near worthless.
Many or all of the PDFs available are unauthorized copies and may not be complete.
Helm Inc is the official source of Ford manuals, printed and/or online.
http://www.helminc.com Having the right manual and, just as importantly, the right electrical schematics could be a great help if you need it worked on and the mechanic does not have the right manual or access to the online services.
And yes, there are changes between different year models so buy the correct year.
I bought a complete set of lightly used 2003 E-series Ford Workshop manuals and electrical schematics on Ebay.   Occasionally, Factory DVD manuals also become available. I'm still looking for one of those.

Aad,
Between 2001 and 2006 Ford made many changes in the E450.  I know that the engine/power train computer and electronics are completely different as is the fuel distribution system.  These are the areas in which I had problems on my 2005.
In 2004 or 2005 Ford replaced their ancient EEC (Engine Electronic Control) unit with the more modern PCM (Power Train Control Module).  It is my understanding that the EEC had a separate "computer" module for the transmission.  The PCM has the transmission control built in.
In the same year they changed the fuel distribution system a bit.  Earlier years had a conventional mechanical "fuel return" system that routed unused fuel from the fuel rail back to the gas tank; i.e. a pipe or hose.  My 2005 had Ford's "electronic fuel return" system.  It depends on the PCM to control the fuel pump operation so that there is no excess fuel delivered to the fuel rail.  Therefore, there is no return hose to the gas tank.  At some point they also had a third type of fuel return system, but I don't remember what they called it or how it worked.
Personally I would acquire the Helm E450 service manuals either in paper form or on the DVD.  I don't have them but subscribed to their use for a month via the web when I was having problems.  I have not seen the 3rd party manuals for the E450, but have used them for other vehicles.  IMHO the 3rd party manuals are of little value, except for the most general and simple tasks.  Even then they often do not provide a lot of important information like correct torque values, clearance measurements, etc.

Dough and Others,
I very much appreciate all your guidance and advice. When I have problems like you describe, Doug, I take my Lazy Daze in to a shop. I like to take on challenges, but this is out of my range. Computers and I are not very friendly related to each other. I am more inclined to do mechanical work, like replacing brakes etc.
That kind of information did suffice me from books such as Haynes etc. in the past.
I definitely do not consider myself a mechanic but just a handyman. My biggest project has been to R and R a Dodge 440 engine from our class A Apollo motor home and had it professionally rebuilt. This project fortunately turned out great and we drove it to Alaska an home without any major problems.
I did put my name down at E-Bay for when a used manual becomes available.

Thanks guys for all your notes.

Aad

May not be helpful, but I have the following Ford 2013 documentation posted to my dropbox folder.
If anyone is interested in any of them, please email me privately and I will send you the link.
Ford 2013 Incomplete frame manual specsDC24-19A268-AA_IVM.pdf  (Base Chassis) Ford Body Builder - 2013_E-Series_v1-0.pdf  (Recommendations on modifications for MH, ambulances etc) Ford E Series 2013_Electrical_Wiring_v1-1.pdf   (Wiring diagram) Ford E-450 Owners Manual.pdf
Off topic,  newbee question:  Several references to SOB as a rig.  Research has found several meanings, none of which are consistent with the general positive impressions of LD rigs.  Translation? thanx

"Several references to SOB as a rig."
In this context, it means "Some Other Brand," i.e., not Lazy Daze. Because its most common meaning is highly insulting, I avoid using the term in order not to inadvertently give offense.

You can find a glossary of commonly used RVing and online forum terms in Eureka Live.
