Propane Gas Leak Detectors. December 11, 2013, 10:15:28 pm Yahoo Message Number: 144043Earlier today I read on a commercial website that these detectors should be replaced every 5 @ 6 years. Is this a common practice? In 2001 Lazy Daze used the CCI Model 7770-2. Are these still available? If not, what would be a good substitute? I realize it is not exactly a cheap item. The mother ship has replacement detectors and a matching wood insert to account for the fact that the new detectors are smaller than the old- so the insert covers the difference. It makes for a very professional look once installed.David Harris

In fact the new one I used has a five year limit built in to the firmware, The new ones are slightly smaller than the original in my vehicle, but I had no problem using one of the original screw holes and a new one. I used Safe-T-Alert FLUSH MT 12V Propane Alarm BROWN, 30-442-P, about $62 form Amazon.I did not realize the propane detectors had a limited life, until mine began to alarm with no provocation.-Dave '06 MB, Indianapolis

Reply #6 – December 12, 2013, 10:20:30 am Yahoo Message Number: 144057All the detectors have a life limit, something many people are not aware of: 5 or 6 years on the propane, typically 7 on the CO, and 10 years on the smoke. On the 2005 SOB I bought recently, all four detectors were beyond their life limits. "Four?" you say? For reasons I can not imagine, the 25' SOB had two smoke detectors (different brands) installed only 5' apart, and both where they were over the slide when it was retracted, which would interfere with their operation!
