Toad tire blow out!

Okay experts...how would you know when a tire blows out on your toad? (We don't recommend the "open window" method which is how we realized after driving probably for 5 miles after the blowout that this in fact had occurred). Traveling down I-95 at 1AM (with the window over the cab open about 4 inches) we started to hear a metal scraping sound. The noise wasn't pronounced enough to cause an immediate stop but after 5 minutes we pulled off the interstate to find a completly destroyed rear toad tire. NOT a fun surprise at 1AM!! We parked in a hotel parking lot for the rest of the night and summoned AAA in the morning which was on scene in less than 10 minutes. Both AAA and Honda confirmed no damage to the axel, brake etc but the rim got damaged and will need to be replaced. You guessed it, all new tires on the CRV today after looking up old maintenance records (previous owner) and realizing they were installed in '05 and while low mileage, had probably past their useful life, although we're not sure. It's possible that we hit something on the road that caused the failure.

We now have all new tires on the LD and CRV.

Looking now at Tire Minder at CW - total system looks to be about $400 including 4 extra sensors. They have a good video explain how the system works. Thanks for the reply. Todd

CW offers a sale price of $259 + $72 for a pair of extra transmitters.
The Tire Minder gets good reviews on CW. (My $400 total including 4 extra transmitters for the toad).
