replacing Qn. bed

And another idea bites the dust. I have/had a BEAR Pillowtop Air bed...I absolutely love air mattresses..closest thing/better than a water bed, and weighs less than a standard mattress, what with the weight issues w/my rig.
. BUT..since I bought this bed in 2010, I've had to return it for leakage four times. It lasts about 6 mo. at most. They do have a life time guarantee, but the return policy is a ...er...be-atch. It takes a good three weeks from having to ship the defective mattress back *first*, then getting the new one shipped to me. My advice @BEAR Air beds? Don't get one.
Being full time now, this is , again, the last straw for this arrangement.
Sooo..does anyone with a IB have an air bed type that they've had good luck with? I know Select Comfort now makes an RV Qn. and am thinking about getting one of those..??
Or, is there a standard type mattress that any can recommend? I can't sleep on Memory Foam..too hot for me, so foam layered  tops, etc. are out. I know many love Memory Foam, but I've tried it out when I had a stick house, and I just couldn't get comfortable on them. I don't want a 'to soft' or 'too firm', and have NO experience with buying standard mattresses.
I will be replacing my now-flat bed in the next couple of days. [I travel with a spare camping air mattress because of this recurring issue.] Like the tires, it's a good thing it happened while I'm parked in GV with my ex...I have a place to have things delivered, and a place to park while I wait! :-)
The problem as I see it is that a standard mattress needs a box spring to help it from forming flat places, and of course, you can't have that setup in the RV. There's really only room for the mattress. I've never slept on a standard mattress that was anywhere near as comfortable as an air bed [not a camping air mattress!~].
Off to do research...and hoping for experienced suggestions from this great resource group!!

If you want an air bed, go with Select Comfort. More expensive, but as you've found out, you often get what you pay for.
One big plus for the Select Comfort is that there are stores all over the country so service would probably be much easier and quicker...something you might ask about when you are purchasing.
We had a Select Comfort in our first RV and really liked it. We were going to get another one for our current RV, but before spending the money, decided to try a memory foam mattress. Got a 3" one from Overstock.com and we're still sleeping on it (the Overstock.com website has a good primer on foam for mattresses/toppers, that's worth a read even if you end up buying a memory foam mattress/topper elsewhere).

I HAD a Sleep Comfort and for that $2300 I could have bought several Aero Beds, they have them at Bed Bath and Beyond, that is what I would get, just my 2 cents worth.

Gini, I know that heat retention is a frequent complaint with memory foam mattresses and/or toppers, but the product at this link (I've dealt with this company with very satisfactory results) might be worth a look:

Can't help with air bed recommendations; my experience has been that they're programmed to deflate at 3 a.m.  ;-)

Your first point is not true.  Millions of people use only a mattress on contemporary platform beds.  We have one in each of our two houses and have not slept on a full set in decades (in our own houses).  It is important that you buy a high-quality mattress.  We use high-end Simmons Beautyrest mattresses exclusively (queen).  There may be others just as good.  Having slept on both platform beds and full-set beds (hotels), we find no difference in comfort.  In our experience, the most important factor is quality.  We have found mattress vs.  full set to be an irrelevant issue.

I do not have enough experience with airbeds to comment on your second point.  Perhaps others with experience can comment on whether there is no mattress that equals an airbed for comfort.

Gini, we have had a Select Comfort mattress in our '02 30' since shortly after we bought it. We have one at home and liked it enough to put a similar one in the LD. Never had a problem in 11 yrs. They are expensive but amortized over the years, it works.
