maybe my time to quit the groups...
Yahoo Message Number: 142337
Was puzzled for awhile by all the talk of format change, but this morning - late - it changed for me too. Also seems to have deleted most of my posts from this morning which had previously been available. I don't have the time to deal with this. In what universe does Yahoo think they have improved anything!!? Steve

"In what universe does Yahoo think they have improved anything!!?"

Steve
Today's physics now theorizes that there are an infinite amount of universes. We are in one of the many Yahoo universes. We have not figured how to move between various universes so we must to deal with the one we are stuck in.
Having gone through a couple cataclysmic software changes in my working life, probably the best approach is to sit back and wait for the dust to settle. Obviously, Yahoo's start up is having a few bugs.
Myself, I have many other things to do and read while Yahoo sorts out the knots.
As for moving the site to another venue, that would have all the  previously debated problems, including a lot of work, possible membership fees and the great difficulty of transferring the files and 142,000 messages.

Let's give it a couple of weeks before doing anything drastic.

To be blunt, Yahoo screwed up this transition badly, and caused a lot of ill feelings, both among users who were confused by the new layout, and among moderators who found themselves unable to manage their groups. But as of this afternoon, the bugs I was seeing yesterday seem to have been fixed. I was able to get around and find just about everything, do a few administrative chores, read and post messages... and the 20 KBps data leak I was seeing has ended. So far the only thing I haven't been able to do is change the homepage photo. It looks as if Yahoo has taken that capability away from us, and from now on we'll be stuck looking at mountain bikers or soccer balls or whatever stock photos they choose to throw at us. No more Photo of the Month. And I can't choose background and highlight colors for the group, the way I used to be able to. But I guess we'll survive. ;-) Yes, they have moved things around. The main thing to remember is that they hid Files, Links and Databases under the new "More" menu (just below the big picture). There's also an item called "attachments" on that menu, but I can't figure out what it's for. Photos confused me until I realized that as you scroll down, they dynamically send you more album thumbnails--similar to the way Google Images works. So instead of showing you some fixed number  of albums to a page, they will just let you keep scrolling down until you've seen them all. The hitch is that it takes time to send all the images, so there may be delays if you're on a slow connection. But then, there were delays with the old page-by-page system too, and I must admit that I like the new, larger image thumbnails. (Information about each album will appear when you roll your mouse pointer over its thumbnail.)  As Chris pointed out, having all the groups you belong to listed at upper left isn't a bad thing. Some of the changes actually do make sense once you get used to them. I'm going to repeat what I said yesterday: let's give it a fair trial. Take the "Product tour" if you haven't already, to get familiar with where things are now. (It's a purple button on the right side of the Conversations page. Oh, Messages are now Conversations, in case that wasn't obvious.) All of the foregoing applies to desktop and laptop computers. Right now I can't get this group's website to do much of anything on my iPad--it won't even let me sign in. Funny, I thought Marissa Mayers was going to put a strong emphasis on getting Yahoo a slice of the mobile-user pie. But maybe that will be fixed tomorrow. anyway, for now it seems to be about 90% functional on traditional Mac and Windows machines. Let's hope yesterday's teething problems are over with. OK, I've learned something already. When you reply to a message, you'll see three black dots at the lower left of the text entry box. If you roll your mouse over them, a tooltip will pop up saying "Show message history." Click on it, and you'll see the entire text of the message you're replying to (aaarrgghhh). NOW you can delete all the extraneous stuff. If you're nice, that is, and you want us all to love and cherish your messages. Otherwise leave it, and we'll curse under our breaths at the multiple repeats of stuff we already read. ;-) Jeez, I wish they hadn't done this... And I still can't get line breaks to show up when my messages are posted, so this is going to be another block of text. :-( Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/

I knew about how to get to files, and now can open most of them.  Still not able to get into the "Buying and Selling" file.  I receive a "oops, broken link".    I like the new photo thumb nails but if someone wants to show a particular picture, say how to tape a roof, I do not understand how to get to that group of pictures.  Between all of us, there are a bunch of pictures albums to go through in order to find a particular subject.  This is more of  a slide show.  I agree it is too soon to quit trying. Wow, I don't get it.  Not a thing has changed for me, I still see the 99RB at Yosemite, and the layout and function is identical for me.  I am set to Web only and Traditional.

They didn't do it to everyone Dave.  And some have been changed back.  I am one of them.

I guess I'm lucky - I'm still seeing the same old format if I go to the group. I rarely do, however, preferring the Digest version

--- I see pretty much the same format at the LD message board website (except that the text at the left of the photo is different from what it was before) when I access the website from my *laptop*. However, the LWALDRV URL (from my bookmark list) on the *iPad* now contains the word "NEO" in the URL and brings up a Yahoo page with the heading "Browse Groups" and a listing of all of Yahoo's groups categories! HUH!?
I suppose that we will have to wait to see what shakes out of the sack on this "neo" deal, but, so far, I'm all for bringing back "public shaming" in the stocks and clamping in any and all of the yahoos who came up with this looney tunes "upgrade"!

My thoughts on new yahoo 'upgrade' I tend to use a Apple iPad.   I also access most all my yahoo groups via email.  I did not notice any change.
Today I access the new interface via the New Photos link at the bottom of this email.   I found the new layout interesting.   All my groups are displayed with the number unread messages.  I like the ability change threads around.   I agree there are a few rough edges.  It looks like they rolled this out without much user beta testing.
All and all more positive then negative IMHO.   We humans tend not to like change and we tend to look back thinking the old days were better then today.

Well...  It finally changed for me too.  Really bad.  Too bad, because I did enjoy participating.  The format change will prevent me from participating.  Oh well... -Dave '06 MB, Indianapolis

It's the Hindenburg.  Not to minimize a terrible tragedy, but the image is very apropos of Yahoo's flaming descent!    Joan
