Hi,.  My wife and myself are future wannabees with the hope of picking up a new 27mb next January. We live in Long Island, NY. We attended the GTG held by the NE laze daze group last year in Pennsylvania and came away assured the LD is the right choice for us. Our question is the distance between the rear couches and the distance in the kitchen, dinette area, inches. We both use a mat for exercising daily. Thanks

Bev and Tim,
 The distance between the collapsed sofas and the distance between dinette are both close to 26 inches.
Length of area is over 7 feet in both areas.

Depending on the type and svope of the "exercises" you're doing, keep in mind that although the *floor* space between the couches may be enough to lay out the exercise mat, the space to actually "exercise" is constrained by the couches on either side. Arm stretches/movements in particular are difficult to accomplish in such a confined space.  I've found that mat exercises in the rig work better in theory than in practice, but YMMV. ;-)

Also if you are planning on picking up a new one next January I suspect you better order it last month.. But I could be wrong... I thought their delivery time were stretched way out with cheap gas, boomers retiring along with the best RV in the market..

Yes, we have been in close contact with Lazy Daze for past year.  We have been written on their list for pickup early January 2017.  Todd Miller said they will call us for the order.  They don't give you a date.  We figured late Spring , early Summer 2016.  We are excited!

The problem is LD cannot get as many E450 cutaways as they would like.
Bigger manufacturers, such a Winnebago, have more clout and get what they want of Ford's limited production.
After the 2008 recession, demand was down and Ford cut production. Being the entire chassis is obsolete, Ford has not been able to significantly increase production and isn't likely to spend the money to do so since the cutaway will go away in the next few years to be replace by ?

The new Transit vans are not a suitable replacement, with small engines and low GVWs.
When a new, suitable chassis does appear, Steve may not want to spend the development money, he is approaching retirement age.
Years ago, he told me that the Kodiak cost him nearly a million dollars to develop, only to build three of them before GM shutdown production.
This the third time this has happened to LD, previously building the Chevy GP30 and the Ford E550, only to have each chassis soon go out of production. A lot of bad luck.

Maybe LD should use the Mercedes chassis.

IMHO Larry is correct about LD not being able to get E-450's.  If I recall correctly, LD did not get their E-450's via the usual path; a designated regional Ford distributor.  This required making an annual purchase commitment with scheduled deliveries.  Most of the RV companies use the regional distributor channel.  In Elkhart the regional distributor has a very large lot that it filled with E-450's.
 It appears that the LD "party line" about the extended delivery is something different.  Good friends (LD owners) were recently at the mothership getting some service work done.  Vince's reason for the extended delivery is that they do not have enough people to build them faster.  About 2 years ago Todd told me that during the economic downturn they laid off about one-third of their employees.   Perhaps they have not increased their work force to previous level's.

"Maybe LD should use the Mercedes chassis." --- The MB Sprinter cab chassis that several manufacturers use as a platform for their products has a maximum GVWR of *11,030* pounds.  The Ford E-450 cutaway chassis that LD uses (as do many other manufacturers) has a GVWR of 14,050 for the V-8 and 14,500 pounds for the V-10.

LD  *may* consider chassis options in the future , e.g., building their coach on a Ford F-550 or another of similar capacity, but I wouldn't count on it; if I wanted a new LD on the E-450, I'd put in my order and get in line.

Additionally (per Doug's comments), the line worker "shortage" at LD is likely accurate; I know that LD lost several experienced builders, some with specialized skills, during the slow down. *As I understand it*, at that time, LD also modified or changed some of the production line methods to compensate for fewer workers; "do more with less". I don't know what the worker situation or what the production line protocols are now (or what compensation that LD offers its employees), but knowledgeable, experienced builders, and even "trainable" hirees with existing skill sets, are not necessarily easy to find.

If I wanted to spend close to $100k to order a new LD and was concerned about potential build quality issues, I'd get my questions in order, do the rewuired pre-visit homework, set my "quality" antennae to max, and go to the factory to check out the situation for myself.
