Sygic: GPS Navigation

I just upgraded my phone to a very nice, fast, and BIG Samsung Galaxy S4.

While looking for an "offline" GPS navigator for this phone  and I found Sygic.
http://www.sygic.com/en
The 7 day trial version so far is fantastic. It locks into GPS quickly and does not need an internet connection. I downloaded the California map which is 300mb.

I am seriously considering purchasing the full version.

Anyone using this app? How do you like it?

Ted, Before you make a financial commitment to sygic, you might look at Scout GPS.  I downloaded it after looking at several free GPS systems.  (This is by Tom-Tom).  After two weeks in Maine and Vermont with a rental car this past month I was blown away.  It was nearly as good as my main RV GPS (Garmin) which cost $150.  There are quite a few free ones on the market these days for smart phones.  Since I purchased an I-Phone 5 last month I realize that we are in the midst of another tech revolution.  I'm just a year or two behind.  I strongly recommend the Scout GPS as a free app.

Happy Travels, David

"Does Scout need an internet connection to operate?"

According to this article, it does:
 http://www.imore.com/navigon-scout-telenav-tomtom-iphone-navigation-app-shootout

"Scout by Telenav doesn't seem to store any maps locally, and so depends on an internet connection in order to function properly. If you don't typically travel to places that have spotty coverage you should be fine with Scout, but may want to download an atlas or maps app to compliment it in the event you do get lost in an area with little service."

Also worth noting, it requires a paid subscription:
"Scout by Telenav is free to download and comes with a 30 day free trial. After that you can either subscribe monthly or yearly. A monthly subscription will run you $2.99 while a yearly subscriptions will run you $9.99."

What I am learning about the Sygic system is that it is a one time price with free updates for life.
That sounds pretty good to me. USA for $33.99 and for another $5 North America.
I just ordered a 64gb Micro SD card too for the phone. :)

That seems to have become the adverage price for tablet GPS.
Garmin"s app is now $39.99.

I just read the reviews on navigon-scout-tomtom.  Very helpful.  And...still I favor scout in comparing the three based on its presentation, accuracy and voice commands, plus the final consideration, cost.  I have the Garmin 2595 GPS for the LD and use the I phone with Scout for our Honda CRV.  Both work very well.  However, the Garmin cost $150 at Costco vs. the $10 a year for Scout.  I'd be interested in hearing the results from others.

Thanks for the info.

I use "Waze" with my Verizon Iphone 5 and love it.  It's free. Besides navigation, it shows all sort of traffic issues and some speed traps. I bought a ram mount for the I phone that I cobbled together with a Garm

I have been so impressed with this Galaxy S4 and Sygic (trial version) combo I went ahead and ordered the Sygic North America full version.
What I really like is how fast and accurate the GPS is and that I can store very nice maps on my phone.
No need for any internet connection which will come in very handy in the boondocks.

I'm thinking you need to factor in the cost of your smart phone data plan also.  With my Garmin/whatever nav system I only buy air time once not monthly.  And I'm not being tracked by cell phone providers/whoever.
