I've just deleted four messages from this thread.
This is something I almost never do. But these messages had hundreds and hundreds of lines of re-re-repeated text--mostly ">>" and returns--from previous messages. The last one I deleted had three lines of new text and FOUR HUNDRED SIXTY lines of useless junk copied from previous messages.
Folks, this kind of thing is just plain rude. Most of us have bandwidth limits, and some of us (including me, right now) are on s-l-o-w connections. Nobody wants to have to scroll and scroll through endless garbage.
The remedy is simple. When you reply to a message, and your email program or Yahoo's web page automatically pastes in the entire text of the previous message, JUST DELETE IT! Hit command-A or control-A to select it all, and then hit delete or backspace to get rid of it. Now type whatever you wanted to say. Simple.
Just two keystrokes--control-A, delete--and all that repetitive junk is gone. That's not much to ask; it's just basic "netiquette." And it will go a long way toward winning friends and influencing people--not only here, but anywhere you go online.

I usually try to leave a couple of lines so the next reader knows what I am referring to.  But, I'm with you.  I get messages all the time from friends and relatives where they never trim the old stuff.  It's pretty annoying.
Some times it's so bad there is no point in even trying to use part of the message.  I just copy what I need, and paste it into a new message.
