Our escape pod

We just moved into our new home after 5 months in our 24 year old 22' TK. She survived torrential rain and hurricane winds during Sandy. She made a grand charging station for the neighborhood cell phones and laptops and provided heat for the oldest and youngest storm battered survivors. We stayed in Jersey for 2 months and then escaped to Gulf Shores, Alabama for 3 months. We got back yesterday to find that not much has been done to rebuild and a large percentage of our old neighbors have just walked away with no hope of returning. Sad. Through it all Ladybug performed like a spry youngster. She kept us high and dry and once again purred like a kitten on our 3500 mile trip. No, it isn't that far to Alabama but somehow Arkansas was on our way home.
I've been following the messages about how old is too old. Our '89 TK has 116,000 miles on her and I suppose we've been very lucky but she didn't use any oil, transmission is strong and everything inside works. George is not mechanically inclined and could not do any repairs. We had one problem but that was with the Blue Ox tow bar. One side of it locked in place and would not release. We bought a new one and continued on our way.
I can't imagine what we would have done without our LD. We spent the first 2 months living in her with our daughter and her 2 cats. We're still talking to each other!

"I keep telling folks that those GPS gizmos lie, but most of them don't believe me, until they end up in a swamp (or Arkansas). ;) " (snicker) RonC
We don't need no stinkin' GPS! It takes the challenge out of driving through the cities ;-) If we had bothered to use the GPS we would have missed beautiful downtown Philly in rush hour traffic. It's fun to sit and watch 5 lanes of traffic funnel into 2. The show lasted for an hour. Who needs a GPS when you're heading home and know all the roads?

Karen - wishing our grandkids didn't live in Jersey!
