"faulty switch in the gas tank?"
Yahoo Message Number: 137300
Hi Dale, yes I have been through this!
If you dig around on the web you will find a common flaw or issue with the 89-91 early fuel infected pump design and sending unit in your v8 gas E350 Chassis, the pump and sending unit seems the go bad with little warning around 50-60k miles! A revised pump and sending unit assembly is available, i used one from Airtex.
Your Rv chassis may use a different pump assembly so dont assume a standard e350 pump is the same, Rv pumps include a connection for a gen set and possibly a different tank capacity.

Call Airtex before you buy...

Airtex advised...
"After reviewing your information, including VIN, we have determined that the correct unit for your vehicle is an E2060S, not an E2071S. This is common with the motorhome chassis since they use the next years model, which would be a 1991 application. When the 1991 application is viewed, we have a note clarifying which part number is correct. I hope this helps and if you have any further questions, please contact our Tech Line at800 424 7839."
If you get the wrong one your guage may read just shy of full when full and sit on empty at 1/3 tank.
I paid about 150-175 online and with a floor jack and a fuel line separation tool i was able to swap mine at home. Be careful with the blue plastic check valve on top of the tank, I broke mine off trying to get the return fuel line loose. It will be brittle and it's a dealer only part, it was 75$ and may not be in stock so be careful, perhaps locate a replacement before you start! Or like me you could be driving across LA for one mid project!
Also be sure to adjust (bend slightly) the float arm to match the old, so your gauge will read full or empty correctly! I

Don't like removing the tank more than once!
Also it may be a good time to adjust or extend your gen fuel pickup. I regret not doing so, my gen shuts off at 1/2 tank

BTW My local dealer wants $800-1000 to fix, replace.
