water under rubber entry step MB
Yahoo Message Number: 136769
I have discovered water under the rubber entry step after driving in heavy rain.  I pulled up the rubber bumpy part and found that there is rotted wood underneath. Obviously has been leaking for awhile. this is a 2004 MB. It has an electric step mounted below. The door is slightly warped but it appears the water may be coming from below deck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated . I don't know how to remedy this.  I live in north Georgia. thank you Nancy

You will want to learn about epoxy penetrating resins that can strengthen rotted wood.  Let the wood dry *completely* and apply ample amount of very runny, very messy epoxy.  Git-Rot is one product name from years ago.  It's the stuff used to rescue rotted wooden boat parts.

My 2001 RK is currently in the shop to repair this very problem. I discovered it by stepping on the step and it felt spongy. I lifted the rubber mat to find exactly what you described.
I thought that perhaps the well known issue with the side door bending was the culprit but the tech, after opening up and removing the rotted wood, told me it was the rear wheel splashing water up against the step. All that protects the wood is waterproof material that the factory either paints or sprays on the wood. Another way to check for leaks in this area is to remove the inside trim around the door and inspect for water intrusion there.
The good news is it is not a difficult fix however I don't have the final bill so I can't tell you how expensive it will be.

Good luck Ed
