Battery question..
Yahoo Message Number: 136555
I've got a stupid question.. Recently I found all of the batteries dead in the LD -- I removed all of them and put them in the garage to see if I could resurrect them after adding the missing water..

I think Ive got the engine battery more or less restored but one of the 6V Interstate U2200 batteries is consistently leaking fluid when charging with a 1.25A battery tender device -- out of the center fill hole.. The water is being sucked out of the outside cells as they are now low.. I shined a flashlight into the 3 cells and one of the cells had a large piece of crud laying on top of the plates just below the fill port.. It was about the size of a quarter give or take.

I used an old pair of pliers to see if I could grab it to remove it but it pretty much disintegrated as soon as I tried to grab it.. The other 6V U2200 battery did not have any such gunk and is not exhibiting the 'peeing' feature of the first..

I'm thinking the first one is likely a replacement candidate but perhaps I can get some more life (albeit limited) from the other.. Comments / suggestions?

P.S. I did test with a hydrometer and it's a little better but not particularly close to the green section on any of these batteries.. The battery tender was very happy with the engine battery which is still reading at about 12.8V after 24 hours of sitting and doing nothing.. I'll be trying it this weekend to see if it's strong enough to start the LD.

TIA!
