Discoloration of roof sealant should I clean? January 28, 2013, 12:08:14 pm Yahoo Message Number: 136473My LD has been out of showroom about 6 months. When new the sealant strips looked white. Now some portions are becoming very dark colored along the roof edges. The discoloration would be more than a wash and wipe with a rag would clean. If anything would clean it, it would require heavy scrubbing and probably harsh cleaners. The roof is clean and white. What do you guys do? My thought is that it is intact, no leaks, in good shape and to leave it well enough alone. But I'm open to suggestions and comments.

Other than occasional washing of the entire roof, with a brush and soapy water, leave the sealant alone until you are ready to apply Eternabond Tape to the seam.Larry

Reply #3 – February 14, 2013, 11:39:01 am Yahoo Message Number: 136812Larry, I'm unfamiliar with Eternabond, and I've had the same question about my roof sealant. I found Eternabond Roof Repair tape quite easily with a google search, and for the cost it seems like a great preventative investment. But at what time is the right time to apply? My roof sealant has some visible cracking, though its only superficial, Not any deeper into the sealant than what I can stick my fingernail into. Should I be thinking to use Eternabond soon? Or is there a different/better solution? Also, is there anything special I should know as far as application is I choose to apply Eternabond? Should I try to remove the old sealant prior to application, or simply apply over the top? Thanks in advance. I've been considering some roof maintenance for some time now, and this may be a good solution.Tyler F 2001 26RB

Thorough cleaning - wash the roof, then when dry clean the old sealant and several inches to each side with acetone, followed with 90% rubbing alcohol. Eternabond applies directly over the old sealant. Note: when overlapping the tape, first clean the underlying tape ends with acetone/alcohol. The one problem I had was Eternabond NOT sticking to its own white top ply. Assume this layer of tape has contamination.Steve
